The Banco Central de Timor-Leste (BCTL), represented by Deputy Governor Rafael Borges, accompanied by Mr. Timoteo Pires, Manager of Financial System Development; Mr. Agostinho Mendonça, Manager of Economic Study; Ms. Olga Ines Conceição, Principal Economic Officer; Mr. Egidio Magno, IT Officer; and Mr. Rogerio Sanches, Financial System Development Officer, participated in a Knowledge Exchange Study Tour in Sydney, Australia, from 12–14 May 2026.
The program was supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (Australia) (DFAT) through the Australian Embassy in Dili, Timor-Leste, in cooperation with Australian regulatory authorities, namely the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA), and Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).
During the visit, the BCTL team exchanged experiences and learned about important topics such as monetary policy implementation and financial market operations; prudential regulation and financial system stability; financial literacy and financial inclusion; digital payment systems and cross-border payments; and economic research, macroeconomic forecasting, and data analysis.
The activity contributed to strengthening BCTL’s institutional capacity and enhancing cooperation with Australian regulatory authorities for continued programs and collaboration in the future.
