đ Strengthening Burundiâs National Statistical System: A Step Closer to Reliable and Quality Data đ
From November 25 to 29, 2024, a peer review mission was conducted in Burundi as part of the Pan-African Statistics Programme II (PAS II), a joint initiative of the African Union (STATAFRIC) and Eurostat, funded by the European Union.
This review assessed the compliance of Burundiâs National Statistical System (NSS) with the United Nations Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics and the African Charter on Statistics, while also highlighting the progress made since the previous peer review in 2018.
đ Key findings and recommendations:

A modernized legal framework ensuring the independence and quality of official statistics.
â
Enhanced coordination structures, including the National Committee for Statistical Information (CNIS) and the Technical Committee for Statistical Information (CTIS).
â
Competent and committed human resources, though still insufficient in number.
â
Challenges to address regarding sustainable funding, digitization of statistical processes, and data dissemination.

đ Ensuring stable funding to guarantee the regularity of surveys and censuses.
đ Strengthening methodological coordination and statistical data dissemination.
đ Developing modern digital tools and improving access to microdata.
