The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forests (MAFF), in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), convened a national validation workshop today (01/12/2025) to review and refine the second draft of Tonga’s National Food Policy. The workshop brought together representatives from line ministries, the private sector, civil society organisations, development partners, and community stakeholders, as well as delegates from Vavaʻu, Haʻapai, ‘Eua and the Niuas, ensuring that all island groups were meaningfully represented.
The National Food Policy aims to strengthen Tonga’s food system through improved food security, enhanced nutrition outcomes, increased domestic production, and a safer, more resilient supply chain.
This validation workshop marks a significant milestone in confirming that the Policy reflects Tonga’s national priorities, aligns with broader national and regional commitments, and embodies the collective perspectives of our people from farmers and producers to consumers and community leaders.
The Ministry extends its appreciation to all participants for their valuable contributions, commitment, and collaborative spirit as we work together to build a sustainable, healthy, and resilient food future for the Kingdom of Tonga.
