Exciting Arrival of the Zaandam Cruise Ship & Spectacular Floor Show Performance Yesterday

Yesterday, Nuku'alofa welcomed a distinguished guest as the renowned cruise ship ZAANDAM arrived at Vuna Wharf, marking an exciting milestone for our island. With a total of 1,147 passengers and 619 crew members onboard, the ship's arrival was a vibrant and bustling event, demonstrating Tonga’s warm hospitality and rich cultural charm.

Most of the passengers, hailing from the United States, eagerly explored the beauty and traditions of our beloved island. The arrival was smoothly coordinated by our trusted local shipping partner,
Pacific Forum Line, with travel arrangements thoughtfully managed by Jones Travel.

Scheduled to arrive at 8:00 am and depart at 5:00 pm yesterday, the day was filled with lively activities and cultural showcases.

Adding a special touch to this memorable day, our talented Ministry of Tourism staff took part to perform a vibrant floor show and group dance. Their spirited performance celebrated Tonga’s cultural heritage, enchanting the cruise guests and showcasing the warmth and talent of our local team.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of this visit. We look forward to welcoming more cruise visitors and sharing the beauty and culture of Tonga with the world.

MASANI CONNECT 2026

The Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with the Waste Management Authority, continues its community outreach programme under the Masani-Connect initiative across the eastern side of Tongatapu.

Ministry staff are working closely with town and district representatives through a series of community meetings and awareness sessions to ensure all participating villages clearly understand the competition criteria, expectations, and the importance of maintaining high standards of cleanliness, organisation, and presentation.

This afternoon, the Taskforce visited the village of Alaki, a site of historical significance as the landing place of Captain James Cook during his voyage to Tonga. It was during this visit that he famously named Tonga the “Friendly Islands” — a title that continues to represent the warmth, hospitality, and welcoming spirit of our people.

The team also met with the community of Tatakamotonga, where constructive discussions were held on the objectives of the Masani-Connect Town Inspection Competition, village participation, and the shared responsibility of maintaining clean, safe, and attractive environments. The positive engagement demonstrated by community members reflects a strong sense of pride and commitment to upholding the values of Masani-Connect.

The Ministry of Tourism looks forward to continuing its partnership with all villages as we work together to revive the spirit of Masani-Connect and showcase the pride, unity, and natural beauty of Tongatapu to both our local communities and visitors.

Celebrating 200 Years of Christianity in Tonga

This year marks nearly 200 years since the arrival of Christianity in the Kingdom of Tonga a moment that profoundly shaped our nation’s history, faith, and cultural identity.

In recognition of this significant milestone, the Culture Division of the Ministry of Tourism has begun consultations and research in the village of Haʻatafu to help identify and formally recognize the historic Christianity Landing Site at Fongolua Beach — believed to be among the first places where Christian missionaries set foot in Tonga.

Leading this meaningful initiative is the Acting Director of the Culture Division, Mr. Semisi Tongia, alongside his dedicated team. Together with local elders and community members, they are gathering stories, knowledge, and historical insights to ensure this important chapter of our past is preserved and honoured for future generations.

As we commemorate nearly two centuries of Christian faith in Tonga, we also celebrate the unity, values, and cultural heritage that continue to guide our nation today. This initiative not only strengthens our historical record but also enhances Haʻatafu’s significance as a heritage destination for visitors from around the world.

Welcome Home, Miss Tonga

On behalf of the Ministry of Tourism and the Government of Tonga, the Honourable Minister for Tourism, Hon. Semisi Kioa Lafu Sika, warmly welcomes home our beloved Miss Tonga, Siosi’ana Patricia Taumoepeau, following her inspiring participation at the Miss Pacific Islands 2026 competition in Fiji.

Miss Taumoepeau represented the Kingdom of Tonga with grace, dignity, and wholehearted dedication. She gave her very best and, in doing so, won the hearts, admiration, and unwavering support of our nation.

While competition outcomes are determined by an appointed panel of judges, the Honourable Minister wishes to affirm that no good deed goes unnoticed, and no sacrifice is ever wasted. Siosi’ana’s commitment, perseverance, and faithful service to Tonga have made a lasting impact. Her elegance, beauty, kindness, humility, and strong faith truly reflected the values of our people.

Hon. Sika shared that, in his view, she is a true winner. Having previously served as a judge at the Miss Pacific Islands pageant, he expressed his personal admiration for the exceptional standard she displayed and the pride with which she carried our nation.

The Ministry extends its heartfelt congratulations and blessings to Miss Taumoepeau. May her efforts continue to open doors of opportunity, and may she be richly blessed in all that lies ahead.
