Representatives from the Public Service Commission Office are privileged to attend the Pacific Workforce Planning Conference in Brisbane from 2–4 June 2026.

The conference brings together workforce planning practitioners, public service leaders, and representatives from across the Pacific to exchange ideas, share experiences, and learn from one another on strengthening workforce planning across our respective countries.

As governments continue to face evolving workforce challenges, effective workforce planning is essential to ensuring that public services have the right people, with the right skills, in the right roles, at the right time. The conference provides a valuable opportunity to explore practical approaches, innovative solutions, and regional best practices that can help strengthen public sector capability throughout the Pacific.

We are grateful for the opportunity to connect and talanoa with our Pacific colleagues and learn from their experiences and successes.

A huge thank you to the Australian Public Service Commission and its staff for their warm hospitality and for organising this important regional event. We look forward to bringing back valuable insights that will support workforce planning initiatives across the Tonga Public Service.

CEO FORUM RETREAT 2026 - SHAPING VISIONARY LEADERS!!

Today, 29th May 2026, the CEO Forum Retreat was successfully held at the Fa'onelua Convention Centre in Nuku’alofa under the theme “Shaping Visionary Leaders / Fatu ha kau Taki mohu 'i he visone”

A total of 22 CEOs and Acting CEOs from both Schedule I and Schedule II Ministries attended the Forum together with the Chairperson and Members of the Public Service Commission.

The Forum was honored by the presence of the Hon. Prime Minister, Lord Fakafanua, as the Guest of Honour, who delivered key messages emphasizing the importance of coordinated leadership, unity across Government, and shaping the future direction of a prosperous Tonga.

The Hon. Prime Minister encouraged leaders to work collectively as “One Government,” highlighting that leadership carries the responsibility to be productive, solution-oriented, and focused on addressing national challenges effectively. He also stressed that effective leaders do not make assumptions, but instead use evidence and data to guide decisions with integrity, accountability, and conviction.

Today’s CEO Forum also featured Mrs. Aloma Johansson, Vice President of the Tonga Chamber of Commerce & Industry as a guest speaker, who reminded leaders of their important role as enablers of economic growth for Tonga. The Forum also included a representative from the Tonga Auditor General’s Office, providing an opportunity to share insights, exchange reminders, and collaborate on practical solutions to strengthen working relationships across the Government of Tonga.

The Forum also provided an important platform for CEOs and Acting CEOs to share updates, collaborate, discuss key priorities, and review the progress of the Government’s 100 Working Day Plan, which is expected to be completed by 11 June 2026.
