Yesterday marked a truly special milestone for the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga as it celebrated the Official Opening of the 102nd General Conference and the launch of the Bicentenary History Book Series, The Life and Ministry of the Church.

The Conference officially commenced induction of RT. Rev. Dr. Tevita Koloa’ia Havea as President and Rev. ‘Alifeleti ‘Atiola as General Secretary. As they step into this new chapter of service, may they be guided with wisdom, strength, and grace in leading the Church into the future. May this Conference be filled with meaningful reflection, strong fellowship, and renewed vision for the years ahead.

The launching of the bicentenary history series officiated by Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Sinaitakala Tukuʻaho, beautifully captures the enduring faith, resilience, and unity of the Tongan people.

History is more than a record of the past; it is a living legacy that we carry forward and a treasure that connects generations. It is inspiring to witness the Church’s commitment to preserving and sharing its remarkable 200-year journey of faith.

Talamonū atu ʻi he ngāue kāfakafa kuo ikuna! Congratulations on this outstanding accomplishment and contribution to Tonga’s spiritual and historical legacy.

We acknowledge the leadership of His Excellency Brody Sinclair, New Zealand High Commissioner for Tonga, who had the honour of attending these significant events 🇳🇿🇹🇴

Mālō ‘aupito and best wishes for a successful Conference.

Congratulations to Our Whare Our Fale 🏘️, a pioneering housing development in Porirua designed to support Pacific families into home ownership that keeps winning recognition and awards.

The project has scooped the Community and Affordable Housing Property Award at the Property Council New Zealand Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry Awards and also one of the best by the Te Kāhui Whaihanga NZ Institute of Architects Regional Awards.

The first stage of the project has delivered 18 affordable, sustainable homes on a 3,000-square-metre site. The homes are centred around a shared malae and common fale, reflecting Pacific village design principles and encouraging intergenerational living and community connection. The wider programme is planned to deliver up to 300 homes for Pacific families in Porirua.

Tonga has always lived alongside nature. Mālō 'aupito to Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme - SPREP and the Government of Tonga 🇹🇴 that this knowledge was embedded into national policy! 🌿🌺

New Zealand 🇳🇿 has supported the Promoting Pacific Island Nature-based Solutions (PPIN) project, which formally handed over three key policy outputs to the Government of Tonga, including guidelines for integrating nature-based solutions into agriculture and forestry, and a National Policy Framework Assessment for coastal resilience. These will be available online shortly.

First Secretary Ms Esther Shaw had the honour of handing these policies over highlighting that “nature-positive approaches need to be embedded across sectors, in how we farm, protect our shorelines, develop infrastructure and plan for climate change. These tools are an important step in doing exactly that.”

Success is not the work of one — he toa takitini. 🤝
