The Embassy of Bangladesh in Ankara celebrated July Mass Uprising Day, yesterday, Wednesday, August 05, 2026 , with due solemnity.
Members of the Bangladeshi community living in Türkiye and embassy officials and staff attended the event.
After the arrival and seating of the guests, the First Secretary of the Embassy and Head of the Chancery, Mr. Md. Shafiq Uddin, delivered a welcome speech at the event organized at the auditorium of the embassy. After that, recitation from the Holy Quran and special prayers were offered seeking forgiveness for the souls of the martyrs of the July Mass Uprising as well as for the peace and prosperity of the country. Later, messages from the Hon'ble President, the Hon'ble Prime Minister, the Hon'ble Foreign Minister, and the Hon'ble Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh were read out, and documentaries produced on the July Uprising were screened.
Then, a discussion session began on the importance and significance of the day. Bangladeshi community members Mr. Hafizur Rahman, Mr. Muhibullah Muhib, Ms. Tajnuva Ihsan Bipasha, and Mr. Nojibur Rahman participated in the discussion. The speakers expressed the hope that the sacrifices of the martyrs and injured in the July Movement would not go in vain and pledged to establish a non-discriminatory, democratic and developed Bangladesh in return for their sacrifices.
In his closing remarks, His Excellency the Ambassador Mr. M. Amanul Haq paid deep tribute to the July martyrs and described the July Uprising of 2024 as a unique and glorious chapter in the history of Bangladesh. He said this uprising was a joint protest and victory of students and the public against discrimination and fascism. The ambassador further said, my special appeal to the expatriate Bangladeshis in Türkiye and around the globe is not to get involved in any extremist, violent, or hateful activities on foreign soil and to refrain from conducting or spreading such propaganda on any platform, including social media. He noted that, in general, Bangladeshi people are a peace-loving nation. But any illegal activity of an individual not only damages his own but also the image of the expatriate Bangladeshi society and Bangladesh. Therefore, he requested everyone to abide by the laws and regulations of the host country and uphold the values of peace, tolerance and harmony. He also mentioned that Bangladeshis coming to Türkiye for kidney treatment or transplantation must also strictly follow the relevant laws and regulations. According to the existing provisions, kidney donation is not allowed except for first- and second-degree relatives. Therefore, he requested everyone to follow the legal procedures prescribed by the embassy, the concerned hospital and the authorities without falling prey to the temptation of any broker or middleman. He reaffirmed that the Bangladesh Embassy, Ankara will always work sincerely for the welfare of the Bangladeshis living abroad and further to strengthen the friendly relations between Bangladesh and Türkiye.
Later, a luncheon was organized for the guests.
