The context of medical assistance comprises services provided to patients at the pre-hospital stage, during the course of hospitalization, and following discharge of the patients from the hospital. In the scope of medical assistance, Orion assistance utilizes its in-house medical professionals, who have vast experience in the medical assistance field, in the provision of medical advice, hospital referrals, obtaining medical reports and discharge summaries, provision of second opinions, provision of a liaison between the hospital treating the patient, the patient, and the insurance company taking care of the medical expenses for the patient’s treatment abroad. Difficulties with regard to interpretation of the language to the patient’s native tongue in the process of physical examination and obtaining an anamnesis, is one of the important tasks in medical assistance. This interpretation process prevents any medical information that can be missed out in the past medical history of the patient, thereby enabling the attending physician to make a thorough evaluation of the patient’s condition. Another important part of medical assistance is obtaining accurate medical information from the treating doctor at the hospital to where the insured client is admitted. Our cost containment department, which was established with the purpose of bringing under control the costs of services rendered by hospitals and healthcare institutions, utilizes doctors and a medical team specialized and experienced in the field of cost containment. The costs invoiced by hospitals and institutions undergo numerous controls and are assessed in detail in accordance with their correlations with the diagnoses and treatments given. Our team, which places a great effort in order to prevent high costs, aims to obtain quality services with the most reasonable costs. The incoming invoices are integrated into our system automatically and are compared with the pre-agreed discounted prices by the system. Once the system reveals the results, the file is evaluated in detail and item by item by our doctors. One of the most important points that is paid attention to in cost containment is to have the institution, from which services are obtained, designate prices reasonable and appropriate with regard to quality and treatment contexts, so that cost containment will be accomplished. The core business of the Technical Assistance department in Orion Assistance is provision of road-side assistance to clients of insurance companies who experience breakdowns on the roads in Turkey. The concept of road-side assistance in Turkey has developed due to the fact that there is hardly any functioning automobile club in Turkey. This process involves determination of the precise localization of the vehicle and sending experts to the site of the breakdown in order to assess the situation, and when necessary, to tow the car to a certified garage, where the car can be repaired. At some instances, the vehicle has to be repatriated back to home country due to inappropriateness of the owner for a long drive, or due to other reasons, in which case, all the customs formalities for exit of the vehicle out of Turkey are dealt with.
