In the field of medical sciences, health services researchers are gradually embracing qualitative methodologies to help unveil the social, structural, and cultural aspects of health care.

The Faculty of Medical Sciences, St. Augustine Campus, is pleased to host its Lunch Hour Lecture Series entitled 'Doing Qualitative Research in Medical Sciences: Some Explorations' with Dr. Talia Esnard, HoD, Behavioural Sciences. The seminar seeks to address the nature of qualitative research and its future potential in health care interventions.

7 UWI St. Augustine researchers ranked in top 2% of the authors in their disciplines

Seven UWI St. Augustine researchers are among the top 2% of the authors in their respective research disciplines globally in a database published in PLOS Biology journal authored by academics from Stanford University. This list represents the names of the scientists within the top 2% of their main sub-field discipline across those who have published at least five papers. The scientists are Professor Terence Seemungal, Professor Hazi Azamathulla, Dr. Sephra Rampersad, Professor Christopher Oura, Dr. Mandreker Bahall, Dr. Rajiv Dahiya and the late Professor Dave Chadee.

The Campus will matriculate a full fee-paying cohort of MBBS students for January 2022. These students will commence their studies at the St. Augustine Campus but will undertake their clerkship rotations in Jamaica.

Following the success of the 2021 January intake, and the University’s continued focus on financial sustainability, the leadership team anticipates that this new category of intake will allow for the continued capital injection into the Faculty, while also enriching the clinical experience of our students.

Please note the following:
⚫️ the existing criteria for entry into the Faculty of Medical Sciences will be used to assess all applications. There has therefore been no change in the academic qualifications required for entry
⚫️ online applications for the MBBS programme January 2022 intake will be accepted up to December 31, 2021.
