Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander tours the abandoned Princes Town Fire Station with Princes Town MP Dr Aiyna Ali and Assistant Chief Fire Officer for the Southern Area Mukharji Rampersad on May 26. Alexander said discussions would begin immediately on how to proceed with returning a fire-service presence to the area. The minister said he and MP Ali were instructed by the Prime Minister to fix the situation, regardless of what they met at the site.

"Morris said through the creation of a new energy sector body to represent the small companies by a UNC government, the people in Mayaro would have jobs and money would flow into Mayaro and Rio Claro.

However, he said a UNC government plans for Mayaro would extend beyond the energy sector.

"We will restore youth opportunities ... the Leader of the Opposition and your next Prime Minister will create the Mayaro Technical Institute, which will teach young people in the avenues of petroleum technology, hospitality, agriculture, and logistics.

This technical institute will restore hope to the young people of Mayaro.

"A UNC government will deliver agricultural transformation from farm to export. We will use Al technology, we will use training, we will use incentives to ensure that Mayaro can become a food basket for Trinidad and Tobago and the region.

"We have over 70 miles of pristine beaches. The plan put forward by the UNC is to ensure a transformation of the tourism sector in Mayaro, where our focus will be on boutique and ecotourism. We will focus on creating green resorts so Mayaro can now become a hub for tourism in the Caribbean, bringing again jobs and opportunities for you," he said."
