Those 3L’s are: Listed, Labelled, and Logged. Whether you are using one of our secure, convenient units for inventory storage (very smart, saves $$$) or part of your office/retail space, you need to ensure you have each of the three L’s covered at all times.
1. Listed. You shouldn’t have to walk into the space to know what is in there. You need a separate list, ideally a spreadsheet, that documents all the items in your inventory and noting the different types, sizes, purchase dates (especially if things are perishable), codes and amounts of each.
2. Labelled. It’s all well and good to have that list, but how will you retrieve any specific item from the storage area if things aren’t properly labelled? Yes, ensure that whichever containers are used, they are LABELLED as well.
3. Logged. When items are moved, for any reason (to sell, to use in display, for a demo, etc, the movement should be logged. Who authorised the use and what other paperwork is needed to track it? For example a sale would have a receipt.
Beyond the 3 L’s we would also recommend regular cleaning. That’s a basic one that applies to everyone really.
