On behalf of the National Theatre Arts Company of Trinidad and Tobago, we extend our deepest condolences on the passing of Eunice Alleyne. Eunice was a remarkable woman whose contributions to both the cultural and public spheres of Trinidad and Tobago will never be forgotten. Born in Venezuela and raised in Trinidad, Eunice’s remarkable career spanned both the arts and public service. From her work in radio and as Director of Information at the Office of the Prime Minister to her academic pursuits at Boston University, Eunice exemplified dedication and passion in everything she did.

Her love for the theatre, nurtured from a young age, led her to become a Cacique award-winning actress and founding member of the Trinidad Theatre Workshop, where she worked alongside the legendary Derek Walcott. She performed in numerous plays and toured internationally, leaving a lasting mark on the regional and global cultural landscape.

Eunice’s legacy as an artist and public servant will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of working with her and witnessing her extraordinary talent and commitment. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.

The National Drama Association of Trinidad and Tobago mourns the passing of Eunice Alleyne, a true icon of our cultural landscape.

A founding member of Trinidad Theatre Workshop, dedicated actress, and mentor, Alleyne played a pivotal role in shaping Trinidad and Tobago’s theatre scene. Her contributions spanned decades, inspiring generations of performers and theatre practitioners.

She is the recipient of the National Drama Association of Trinidad and Tobago's 1998 Best Actress Cacique Award, and 2003 Lifetime Achievement Award. Her passion and dedication to the Arts will never be forgotten. Alleyne is a former Director of Information in the Office of the Prime Minister.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and the entire artistic community. May her legacy continue to shine on our stages and in our hearts.

Eunice Alleyne was a gem of a human—an exceptional talent, a generous spirit, and the kind of actor every director dreams of working with. As Grace, the beloved Granny in Sally’s Way, she embodied the warmth, wisdom, and quiet strength of a true Caribbean matriarch. She didn’t just play the role—she was the heart of it.

Her career spanned decades, and through it all, she remained a consummate professional—easy to work with, kind, and always lifting up those around her. She had a way of making every scene, every moment, feel real and alive. She gave so much to the creative community, and we are all better for having known her.

Eunice’s presence, both on and off the screen, will be deeply missed, but her light and legacy live on in the stories she helped tell and the people she touched. Rest well, Eunice—you were truly one of a kind.

This is our favorite picture of a session at the maximum security Prison. The group we work with there eventually became known as the Transformer Performers. They created and performed in about 6 shows a year for the 10 years we worked with the MSP.
