ADVERSE WEATHER ALERT #3 - YELLOW LEVEL
Adverse Weather Alert remains in effect until Wed, May 5, 2021 6:00 PM for Trinidad only

Weather conditions are gradually improving over Trinidad and has substantially improved over Tobago.

โ›ˆ There is still a 60% chance of moderate to heavy rainfall and the lower chance of an isolated thunderstorm, for Trinidad over the course of the day.

โš ๏ธ This additional rainfall may however further exacerbate the localized flooding currently being experienced in some areas.

๐Ÿ’จ While river levels in the main river courses continue to be contained at this time, landslips may occur in areas so prone and gusty winds in excess of 45 km/hr may accompany heavy showers or thunderstorms.

โ„น Instructions: Do not venture into flood waters. Residents in the vicinity of river courses must be mindful of river levels. Monitor weather conditions and updates from official sources via www.metoffice.gov.tt and www.odpm.gov.tt

#DMUupdate The Disaster Management Units across all municipalities stand ready in the event of any hazards following the announcement of an Adverse Weather Alert - Yellow Level issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service

The Disaster Management Units have responded to several hazards as a result of todayโ€™s rainfall and strong winds. There have been reports of fallen trees, collapsed rooves, landslide and street/ flash flooding.

Citizens are urged to stay indoors and avoid traversing the nationโ€™s roadways. In the event that persons are required to be outdoors they are advised to exercise caution. Those in flood prone areas or who require sandbags are advised to contact their municipal corporation for assistance. The Disaster Management Coordinators will remain on standby until the severe weather has passed.

ADVERSE WEATHER ALERT #2 - YELLOW LEVEL

Adverse Weather Alert remains in effect until Wed, May 5, 2021 6:00 PM

Although periods of light rain are expected tonight (4th May), the intensity of the rainfall is forecast to increase during the early morning tomorrow (5th May).

โ›ˆThere is a medium chance of isolated thunderstorms but a high potential for intermittent, moderate to heavy rainfall to continue throughout the day.

โš This increases the risk for localized flooding in areas so prone and can further exacerbate impacts from today's rainfall activity. River levels in the main river courses are contained at this time but there is the likelihood that tributaries and smaller river courses can overflow their banks.

โš  Landslips may occur in areas so prone and gusty winds in excess of 45 km/hr may accompany heavy showers or thunderstorms.
โ„น Instructions: Residents in the vicinity of river courses must be mindful of river levels.

#DrySeasonAwareness Forest Fires or Bush Fires usually occur in the dry season period during the months of December to June, these fires can be started intentionally, accidentally or spontaneously.

Sometimes fires are set deliberately for farming or disposal of refuse, if not done properly it can cause disastrous consequences. Illegal fires pose dangers to person, property and the environment.

In order to reduce bush fires, the Disaster Management Units of the 14 Municipal Corporations installed anti-bushfire signs at various locations across Trinidad.

โ–ถ๏ธ Setting illegal fires
โ–ถ๏ธ Poorly disposing of garbage/ plant material/ unwanted items/ etc. via burning (with or without a fire permit)
โ–ถ๏ธ The careless disposal of cigarette butts and faulty electrical systems can also result in accidental fires.

Additionally, those seeking to set fires must visit the nearest Fire Station to acquire a fire permit and, if granted a permit, adhere to the guidelines provided. The World Day for Safety and Health at Work, celebrated annually on April 28th, promotes the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally. It is an awareness-raising campaign intended to focus international attention on the magnitude of the problem. It also brings attention to how promoting and creating a safe and healthy culture can help reduce the number of work-related deaths and injuries.

This yearโ€™s World Day for Safety and Health at Work focuses on leveraging the elements of an OSH system as set out in the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 2006 (No. 187).

The International Labour Organization (ILO) will take this opportunity to raise awareness and stimulate dialogue on the importance of creating and investing in resilient OSH systems, drawing on both regional and country examples in mitigating and preventing the Spread of COVID-19 at the workplace.

When will the PENAL/DEBE REGIONAL CORPORATION finish clean up the rubbish that was dumped throughout the La Romain EMBD development? When will the corporation approve and send a garbage truck to work in the development? The first issue was reported to the Corporation, the Councilor and the Municipal Police. All of which came and viewed the rubbish, promised that it will be removed and encouraged residents to report suspected dumpers. After the corporation 2nd clean up a PDRC garbage truck dumped a load of garbage, as well as other nasty citizens (dead animals, construction materials, landscaping refuse ect). All we asking the corporation PLEASE! remove the garbage. It is an health hazard. Every day the residents have to deal with the smell of garbage, dead animals, corbeau, flies as well as chasing people coming to dump. Constituents can't and refuse to live in dump like conditions. The second issue was brought to the attention of the councilor who then said that he will work on it. He assured that application was was made and will approved in the shortest possible time. That was since February. Six months later not a word. What is the issue the approval, how long we have to wait?
Dear Friends, The best of health to you. I wish to congratulate you on the excellent work that you are doing to alleviate suffering at these times. I believe that the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government represents the executive arm of social justice and is a powerful vehicle to propel the country to first world status. As we know, there is a colossal stray dog crisis hurting our nation. These social animals are left open to abuse and horrific deaths as we are seeing repeatedly. The economic and mental and physical health implications embracing this problem are terrible. These include noise pollution, faecal contamination, and garbage spillage as well as traffic accidents. The sight of these unfortunate creatures can also heavily impact on ones psyche. The spread of rabies is also a definite threat. The World Health Organization estimates over fifty five thousand deaths each year from this incurable disease. Strays also serve as vectors for other pathogens. When we visit beaches, rivers and other recreational areas and even during leisurely drives, we see starving, abandoned and afflicted dogs. This is a local and international embarrassment and it presses for strategic and powerful governmental action. This issue burdens every citizen. This is very much a human dilemma that requires your immediate and proficient intervention. Without adequate shelters and infrastructure together with strong sterilization and adoption programs, we are headed for unquestionable disaster. I have spoken to several NGOs including the Animal Welfare Network and the Animals 360 Foundation. I learnt that a committee has been established to move the stray dog control bill forward but no progress has been made. This is a crucial part of legislation that is missing in order for the nation to move forward in view of a respectable state of Animal Welfare. Communications have been sent to Minister Kazim Hosein, but there has not been an appropriate response. Please give an update on this urgent situation. Thank you. Yours sincerely, Ravi Ramkissoon.
Good day Minister Hosein. Can you please organise with the TPRC to start cleaning the Bovell Canal that cuts across Marshall Trace. I have called them several times and they seem to be on permanent vacation.
Many senior citizens have not recieved their Old age pension cheque for December,2019 as yet. When will they get it ?

Wondered if this will be done in San Juan Laventille also. Their FB site doesn't allow uploads or new posts so I'm posting here.
