The Honourable Khadijah Ameen, Minister of Rural Development and Local Government, today joined participants and facilitators at Day 1 of the Disaster Management Coordinating Unit (DMCU)’s Shelter Management Training Workshop, bringing greetings and underscoring the importance of preparedness and community resilience.

The workshop forms part of the DMCU’s ongoing efforts to build resilient and prepared communities across Trinidad by equipping volunteers from Regional Corporations, Community Councils and Centres, Disaster Management Units, the Trinidad and Tobago Red Cross, and other key stakeholders with the knowledge and practical skills needed to effectively manage and operate emergency shelters.

Upon completion, participants will receive certification as trained shelter managers, strengthening Trinidad and Tobago’s capacity to respond effectively and support communities in times of disaster.

On Saturday 8th August, 2026, the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government’s Local Economic Development Unit (LEDU) engaged with patrons at the Loyal to Local Market, which took place at the S&S Persad compound in Mayaro.
