In coordination with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Department of State will revoke U.S. passports of those who owe significant child support debt. Anyone owing child support debt should arrange payment now with the relevant state child support enforcement agency to prevent passport revocation. If outside the U.S. when their passport is revoked, individuals with significant debt will be eligible ONLY for a limited validity passport for direct return to the United States. Deputy Secretary Landau visited the Exchange Sewala in Couva, where he got a taste of East Indian culture. The Embassy partnered with the National Trust of Trinidad and Tobago and CyArk, a U.S. NGO, to create a 3D virtual tour of the site which helps preserve this important piece of cultural heritage. 🇺🇸🇹🇹

During his visit to Trinidad and Tobago on August 10, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Landau got a quick lesson in playing the steel pan, a true example of Trinbagonian culture and innovation.

Today, the U.S. embassy joins in celebrating the rich history, artistry, and global impact of the steelpan.

Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, Minister of Works and Infrastructure Jearlean John, Chargé d'affaires Philip Kern, Chief Executive Officer of Pinnacle Steel and Vanadium Corporation Edwin Bennett and Chairman Dave Caldwell officially cut the ribbon to re-open the Ibis Steel Company of Trinidad and Tobago Ltd. today at Point Lisas Industrial Estate, Couva.
This re-opening reflects the strength of the U.S.–Trinidad and Tobago economic partnership and the confidence U.S. investors Pinnacle Steel and Vanadium Corporation, continue to place in Trinidad and Tobago's industrial sector. Investments like this create jobs, strengthen local manufacturing capacity, and reinforce the deep economic ties between our two countries. The United States looks forward to continued growth and collaboration with Trinidad and Tobago.

Deputy Secretary Landau experienced the vibrant rhythm of Trinidad and Tobago's steel pan culture at Invaders Steel Orchestra Port of Spain panyard shortly after arriving on August 9 for an official visit. The steel pan is 🇹🇹 national instrument. August is National Steelpan month with World Steelpan Day being celebrated on August 11. 🇹🇹🇺🇸

Deputy Secretary Landau’s Travel to Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana

Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau will travel to Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana August 9-12, 2026. In Trinidad and Tobago, Deputy Secretary Landau will meet with Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to further strengthen the bilateral relationship, including to discuss shared energy and security priorities and advance economic cooperation. In Guyana, Deputy Secretary Landau will meet with President Irfaan Ali and cabinet members to discuss expanding bilateral economic cooperation and strengthening bilateral investment opportunities. The visit will also focus on enhancing collaboration in strategic sectors including energy and critical minerals.

Deputy Secretary Landau’s visit underscores the United States’ commitment to strengthening partnerships across our hemisphere and advancing shared priorities, including regional security, energy resilience, and economic prosperity.

The bilateral relations between the United States and Trinidad and Tobago on security cooperation has been further strengthened following the activation of Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere (JTF-WHEM) by U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM). JTF-WHEM as well as Trinidad and Tobago’s ongoing participation in the 18-nation Americas Counter Cartel Coalition (A3C) reflects a shared commitment to defend sovereignty, strengthen regional security, and confront narco-terrorist networks.

The purpose-built joint task force will synchronize U.S. military operations alongside trusted Caribbean and Latin American allies, like Trinidad and Tobago, to counter transnational criminal networks, enhance regional maritime interdiction, and respond rapidly to humanitarian crises.
