The time for concern is over. The time for consequence is now.

Did you know that by the end of May 2026, more than 252 million people were in urgent need of humanitarian assistance and protection?

On 19 August every year, the UN marks World Humanitarian Day - a time to honour humanitarian workers and to stand with people affected by crises around the world.

World Humanitarian Day is a global celebration of people helping people. It is intended to raise public awareness of humanitarian assistance worldwide and the people who risk their lives in order to provide it.

20 years! It seems like yesterday that the Parliament Channel aired its first live sitting on a dedicated channel, allowing the public to see their representatives work on their behalf without interruption and without editing. Happy 20th anniversary to the Parliament Channel!

August 12 is International Youth Day!

This year's theme is "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations".

Today, we recognize that while young people’s lives are shaped by different national and local realities, their aspirations are remarkably similar. Across countries and communities, young people seek dignity, opportunity, meaningful participation, decent work, quality education, and a sustainable future.

International Youth Day offers a chance to raise awareness of the need to ensure the engagement and participation of youth, which is essential to achieve sustainable human development.

On August 11 every year, the UN celebrates World Steelpan Day! 🛢💃🏾

A musical instrument originating right here, in Trinidad and Tobago, the steelpan promotes inclusive societies, sustainable communities and the creative economy.

It also has a positive impact on mental health and well-being, gender equality and youth empowerment.

The Public Administration and Appropriations Committee held a public meeting on Wednesday, 5th August, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. in the J. Hamilton Maurice Meeting Room, Ground Floor, Cabildo Building, Parliamentary Complex, St. Vincent Street, Port of Spain.

At this meeting, the Committee continued its examination into the State’s Acquisition of Pharmaceuticals as it relates to the current processes applicable to its importation and approval with officials from the following entities:

1) Ministry of Health;
2) Ministry of Health: Chemistry, Food and Drugs Division; and
3) Mr. Asif Ali - Former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health.
