Established in 2007 by the Ministry of National Security, OLEP monitors the operations of the Trinidad & Tobago Police Service in the context of the new governance structure for the Service, through the provision of general policy direction and support. OLEP’s Overview:
In 2007, the Ministry of National Security saw the establishment of the Office of Law Enforcement Policy by the then Government

of Trinidad and Tobago. OLEP’s creation was with the intention of purpose is to monitor the operations of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service in the context of the new governance structure for the Service, through the provision of general policy direction and support. The Mission:
To research, develop, monitor, and evaluate policies of Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and other law enforcement/criminal justice entities, relating to programmes, facilities, technology, finance, human resource, and legal matters. Programmes under OLEP:
MLI (Morvant Lavetille Initiative):
• Roy Cape Right Tunes Music Programme
• Oratory Programme
• President’s Award Programme
• No Child Left Behind Computer Initiative

Programmes that are managed by OLEP:
• Transit Police Unit (TPU)

OLEP’s Major Responsibilities:
OLEP helped coordinate, recruit and select on behalf of the following:
• Parliamentary Police Unit
• Immigration Detention Center (IDC)
• Traffic Warden Division
• Traffic Enforcement Center
• Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (Supplemental Police Department)
• Prandial Larceny Squad
• Fisheries Monitoring, Surveillance and Enforcement Unit (FMSEU)

Today, 29 dedicated officers (7 Corporals & 22 Constables) graduated, ready to serve and protect. Their hard work, commitment, and determination have paid off, and we couldn't be more proud! 👮‍♂️👮‍♀️

Minister of National Security Fitzgerald Hinds, Permanent Secretary Ms. Nataki Atiba-Dilchan, and Director of the Policy and Community Support Office (PACSO) Ms. Gale Charles, all lauded the PowHER Program's instructors and alumni. The grads also collaborated with Ms. Elma Haynes and Ms. Natalie Gonsalves to ensure the PowHER Program was successful. The initiative targets the issues that women, particularly single moms in East Port-of-Spain, face by equipping them with the tools they need to overcome challenges such as as poverty, unemployment, and limited resources. The Minister praised the program's transforming effect on participants, their families, and communities.

powHER Programme Graduation 2024

The Policy and Community Support Office (PACSO) formally the Office of Law Enforcement Policy (OLEP), Ministry of National Security held its 3rd Graduation for the powHER Programme at the PACSO on November 20th 2024. Fifty-six (56) women graduated from the programme which focuses on enabling women ages 18 and above to develop an entrepreneurial attitude, thereby encouraging independence, improving their standard of living and also helping address issues associated with various forms of gender-based violence.

“She’s Royal” was the theme of the graduation and the essence of this was captured as it commenced, with a violinist serenading the women as they made their entrance into the venue. Welcome remarks were given by the Director of PACSO, Ms. Gale Charles and the Feature Address was delivered by the Minister of National Security, The Hon. Fitzgerald Hinds MP. The women were presented with certificates and awards and the graduation culminated with a toast to the powHER graduating Class of 2024.

Bullying has evolved into 'Cyberbullying'. It entails using the internet to disparage, threaten, and propagate untrue rumors about someone. Incidents of cyberbullying include being the target of sexually provocative or offensive comments, unflattering and suggestive personal photos circulated online, and being harassed, captured on camera, and having one's images or videos shared online. The TTPS Cyber and Social Media Unit is where you may report cyberbullying.

We've returned with our specially designed kids and teen-focused trips!
Participants in our Creative Expressions programme enjoyed the opportunity to visit the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago Museum.
They were given the opportunity to discover more about the establishment of the Central Bank, the history of money, the global circulation of money, and the gradual development of the Trinidad and Tobago currency.

Creative Expressions Programme – July/August 2024

The Office of Law Enforcement Policy (OLEP), Ministry of National Security held its 5th Cycle of the Creative Expressions Programme at the Beetham Gardens Community Centre from July 8th to August 14th 2024. The progamme which focuses on young persons between the ages of 7 to 17 years within the communities of East Port of Spain, uses different forms of the arts (i.e. Spoken word/Poetry, Arts and Craft, Drama, Dance and Drumology) as a mechanism to channel participants emotions and expressions in a healthy manner and to aid in the development of their talents and prepare them for the future.
Field Trips are also a part of the programme and offered participants experiences outside of the classroom. The trips were to the Diana Candy Company Ltd., Lopinot Historical Complex, Central Bank Museum and Wild Fowl Trust.
The programme ended with a Recital in the auditorium where the children took part in Song, Plays, Spoken word and Dance. They also displayed their works of Art and Craft. There were fifty-nine (59) participants who received certificates of participation.

In attendance were the Minister of National Security Mr. Fitzgerald Hinds, Director of OLEP Ms. Gale Charles, Project Manager, Mr. Christopher Gayadeen, staff of the OLEP who organized and coordinated the programme – Ms. Elma Haynes, Ms. Natalie Gonsalves, Ms. Desja Campbell and Mr. Corrado Furlonge-Kelly, President of the Beetham Gardens Community Council Mr. Joel Lee, Parents and members of the Media.

The Women Police Officers of the Transit Police Unit engaged members of the public who traversed through City Gate and environs on Friday, March 08, 2024, in celebration of International Women’s Day.

5196 Woman Sergeant Thomas, 9560 Woman Corporal Holder, 9584 Woman Corporal Burke-Rock, 9613 Woman Police Constable Prince-Forbes, S0044 Woman Police Constable Pitt, , S0048 Woman Police Constable Chotak, S0064 Woman Police Constable Gibbs-Christopher, S0067 Woman Police Constable Nicome and S0068 Woman Police Constable Jeffers.

This cadre of Transit Police Female Officers met with commuters and provided them with brochures and pertinent information on pedestrian safety, road traffic violations/ offences and Self-care practices for women as they encourage women to prioritize their health and wellness. The public was also sensitized to the Transit Police Unit’s roles and vision. The Transit Police Unit continues to work towards ensuring the safety of members of the public as they commute within the City Gate Transportation Hub, Route One Maxi Stand, Route Two Maxi Taxi Stand (Arima) and the Priority Bus Route between Port-of-Spain and Arima.
