# 46 - 48, Duke Street, Port of Spain at this time of the year would be considered a Carnival hot spot because it is home to one of the most popular and historical steel pan bands in the country, Trinidad All-Stars Steel Orchestra, 10-time Panorama Champions, Humming Bird Gold Medal recipients in 1982 for their contributions to the art of the Steelband movement and 1986 honorees of the Port of Spain City Council.
His Worship, Alderman Joel Martinez, Mayor of Port of Spain accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Martinez, attended a small ceremony at the home of the popular band and create some history to add to the All-Stars legacy.
On Saturday 13th, 2021 His Worship, the Mayor of Port of Spain, Alderman Joel Martinez, formally renamed the corner of George and Duke Streets, the Neville Jules Junction.
Neville Jules was born May, 21st 1927 at the East Dry River, Port of Spain, he was a Tamboo Bamboo player and in the 1940s - 1970s, he began his Steelband career with the Trinidad All-Stars Steel Orchestra as a Tuner, Player, and Arranger.
In the 1970s he received the Hummingbird Medal Bronze for the art of Steelband, the Trinidad and Tobago Folk Institute Pan Legend Award in 2001, and the Trinidad and Tobago 2018 Chaconia Medal Silver,
Neville Jules passed away on February, 19th 2020.
In his speech His Worship, the Mayor describes Mr.Jules as a pan extraordinaire! " A visionary
that was recognized on a national level for his contribution to the development of the instrument.
His love for the Trinidad All-Stars Steel Orchestra led him to create certain traditions within the band that I have heard still exists to this day. It is, therefore, my pleasure
to honor his contribution to our national instrument and our Capital City in such a concrete way."
