The MTTI hosted the Buy Local, Build Trinbago Market Experience in Mayaro, in partnership with S&S Persad Supermarket, on Saturday 8th August, 2026. The regional karting championship brings together some of the Caribbean’s most promising young drivers to compete in four days of high-level motorsport action.

ICYMI. A new chapter in T&T's Metals Industry

The former Point Lisas steel plant, once operated by the former State-owned ISCOTT, was fully privatised decades ago and later became part of ArcelorMittal. Following the company’s closure and insolvency proceedings, the plant’s assets fell under the control of court-appointed liquidators. As stated in the Ministry’s official release, “Liquidators were appointed and assumed responsibility for the assets and their disposal.” Pinnacle Steel, a United States investor, ultimately reached agreement with the liquidators to purchase the plant.
