The Ministry of Homeland Security’s Counter Trafficking Unit (CTU) has taken careful note of the article published by the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian on 26 July 2026, entitled "Confessions of a Former Human Trafficker: Alex Philip recounts Smuggling Women into T&T," and the accompanying video interview which has since generated significant public concern and discussion.

The allegations described in the publication are serious.

Human trafficking can happen anywhere, including Tobago.

Not every case involving prostitution is human trafficking. However, when a person is forced, threatened, deceived, controlled or exploited for s*x, it may be s*x trafficking.

The Counter Trafficking Unit has received confirmed reports of human trafficking in Tobago. We need the public’s help to protect vulnerable persons and stop exploitation.
