France and Germany – a very special partnership
This partnership is based on the Élysée Treaty benefitting not only politics and the economy. Students, too, are offered the chance to gather international experience. The Aachen Treaty renewed this friendship. #LongLiveFriendship
German-French Friendship commemorated
Today, on German-French Day on January 22, we commemorate the Élysée Treaty of 1963 and , when President Charles De Gaulle and Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer forged the close friendship between the two nations.
The Aachen Treaty of 2019 places the relationship on a broad foundation and aligns the bilateral rapport for the future within the framework of the EU. With this contract, Germany and France have agreed on a joint program of intensified cooperation in the face of a multilateral order that has come under pressure:
Combating climate change is teamwork: Germany and France, together with their partners, support the European Green Deal to make the EU climate-neutral by 2050 – and they are committed to achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement. We can only solve global problems together. This is what German-French friendship stands for.

Since 1988, on December 1st, World AIDS Day🌎🎗, calls have been made to show solidarity with people with HIV and AIDS, to promote them and to counteract discrimination. Today we should not only think of the people who died as a result of the infection, but also call on people to create access to prevention and medical care - worldwide and for everyone. Around 38 million people worldwide are infected with HIV and unfortunately only 67% of them have access to appropriate medication. To make matters worse, the measures against HIV / AIDS are being thrown back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is all the more important to raise awareness of the infection.
The German Embassy in Port-of-Spain, together with its EU-Partners, fully supports the UN-initiative "orange the world" to create awareness against gender-based violence.
