The Export Centres Company Limited (ECCL) is a State Agency, under the purview of the Ministry of Sport and Community Development, with a focus on the overall development of the Craft Industry and the resulting maximisation of the industry's contribution to the economic diversification of Trinidad and Tobago.
Incorporated as a limited liability company in 1996, ECCL's original mandate was to develop the handicraft sector by identification of market opportunities, stimulation of continuous design of a range of craft items with a Caribbean aesthetic, and bulk sourcing of raw materials locally and internationally.
In 2002, its mandate was subsequently expanded to include revitalization of the craft industry, through training and development of local artisans and socially disadvantaged persons with skills to produce quality items for self-subsistence and for export. Successful achievement of ECCL's mandate was therefore envisioned to contribute to the reduction of poverty and crime.
ECCL's Craft Markets are initiatives that aid in fulfilling this mandate. Over the years ECCL has aided over 1000 artisans in craft skills training and craft entrepreneurship.
