The sixteenth edition of the National School's Soca Monarch Competition will be staged on Awesome Friday 2016 at the Queen’s Park Savannah by the Caribbean Prestige Foundation for the Performing Arts (CPF). HISTORY

CARIBBEAN PRESTIGE FOUNDATON (CPF) FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANISATION THAT FACILITATES THE PRODUCTION OF THE NATIONAL SCHOOLS’ SOCA MONARCH (NSSM) COMPETITION. WE PA

RTNER WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION TO POSITIVELY CONTRIBUTE TO THE CULTURAL, SOCIAL AND HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE CHILDREN OF TRINIDAD & TOBAGO THROUGH THE PERFORMING ARTS. NSSM CAME ABOUT IN 1997 AND IS A CPF INITIATIVE INTENDED TO PROVIDE A SAFE AND ENCOURAGING AVENUE FOR CHILDREN TO EXPLORE AND REFINE THEIR UNDEVELOPED TALENT. THE MAIN OBJECTIVES ARE:
1. TO CREATE A NURSING GROUND FOR YOUNG TALENT
2. TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES REGARDLESS OF GEOGRAPGIC LOCATION
3. TO HAVE SOCA REPRESENTED FOR THE FUTURE BY STARTING FROM SCHOOL AGE
CRITERIA
THE COMPETITION IS OPEN TO CITIZENS OF TRINIDAD & TOBAGO ATTENDING PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS (GOV’T & PRIVATE) AS WELL AS ALL CHILDREN BETWEEN THE AGES OF 7-19, WHO ARE NON-STUDENTS
THE COMPETITION IS STRUCTURED COMPRISING TWO CATEGORIES – JUNIOR & SENIOR CATEGORY
• CONTESTANTS IN THE JUNIOR CATEGORY MUST BE BETWEEN THE AGES OF 7-13 YEARS
• CONTESTANTS IN THE SENIOR CATEGORY MUST BE BETWEEN THE AGES OF 14-19 YEARS
THE JUDGING CRITERIA COMPRISE OF FIVE MAIN AREAS INCLUDING:
• MELODY,
• RENDITION,
• LYRICS,
• ARRANGEMENTS
• AND PERFORMANCE

COMPETITION

THERE ARE THREE STAGES INCLUDING:
THE PRELIMINARY, SCHEDULED TO BE HELD ON SATURDAY 9TH JANUARY 2016; AT THE RUDRANATH CAPILDEO LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE, LOCATED AT SOUTHERN MAIN ROAD, MCBEAN VILLAGE, COUVA, 9 A.M – 4 P.M. SEMI-FINALS SCHEDULED TO BE HELD ON SATURDAY 16TH JANUARY 2016; AT CITY HALL PORT OF SPAIN, LOCATED AT #4 KNOX STREET PORT OF SPAIN, 9 A.M – 4 P.M. THE FINAL COMPETITION – AWESOME FRIDAY, SCHEDULED TO BE HELD ON FRIDAY 29TH JANUARY 2016; AT THE QUEENS PARK SAVANNAH, 9 A.M – 4 P.M.
