Strengthening safety, preparedness, and teamwork at the Diego Martin Borough Corporation. 🔥🚨

On Thursday 14 May, Chairman of the Disaster Management & Occupational Health & Safety Committee, Councillor Marcia Marslin, hosted a certificate distribution ceremony for employees of the DMBC who successfully completed a 2-day Fire Warden training programme that was hosted by The Disaster Management Unit (DMU), in conjunction with the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service.

Participants who are now designated as Emergency Wardens, were equipped with essential fire prevention, emergency response, and evacuation management skills aimed at fostering a safer working environment for both staff and the public.

Congratulations to all participants for your dedication to safety, professionalism, and continuous development. Your commitment will play a vital role in building a more prepared, resilient, and safety-conscious Corporation. 👏🏽🎖️

Councillor Arlene Ramdeo and Chairman Ryan Rampersad arrived safely in Fuzhou on the evening of Monday 11th May 2026 to participate in the 21st Maritime Cooperation Committee International Workshop on Juncao Technology 2026.
The workshop brought together 16 representatives from 9 countries, all of whom were transported to Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University for the official opening ceremony, which commenced at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday 12th May 2026.
The opening ceremony was facilitated by a distinguished panel comprising Mr. Liu Bin, Mr. Fu Chaobo, Mr. Du Weiguang, and Ms. Han Zhumei, representing the 21st-Century Maritime Cooperation Committee, the Foreign Affairs Office of the Fuzhou Municipal People’s Government, and Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University. The panel members formally welcomed participants, introduced their respective organizations, and outlined the objectives and significance of the workshop.
Each participating delegation was also afforded the opportunity to introduce themselves and provide a brief overview of their respective countries. Following the opening proceedings and an official group photograph, participants attended the first lecture session conducted by Dr. Ronald Cai of the China National Engineering Research Centre of Juncao Technology. The lecture focused on the cultivation and management of high-yield and high-quality Juncao grass, highlighting its agricultural, environmental, and socio-economic applications.
At approximately 12:00 noon, participants were transported to the hotel for lunch before returning to the university for the afternoon session. The second lecture was delivered by Professor Shao Ensi and centred on an overview of China’s national conditions and development framework.
Throughout both sessions, Councillor Arlene Ramdeo and Chairman Ryan Rampersad remained fully engaged and actively participated in discussions and exchanges with fellow delegates and lecturers. Particular emphasis was placed on exploring the potential applicability of Juncao technology within Trinidad and Tobago, including opportunities for agricultural innovation, sustainability, and community development initiatives.
The first day of the workshop proved to be highly informative and provided valuable insight into the potential benefits of Juncao technology and future avenues for international cooperation.
