❗SCHOOL SUPPLIES AND BOOK GRANT 2026 MEANS TEST❗

The Ministry of Education is conducting a Means Test to determine eligibility for the School Supplies and Book Grant, to support financially disadvantaged students at both the Primary and Secondary levels. This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burdens students face in acquiring essential school supplies, ensuring they have the resources for learning.

The Means Test commences on 22nd June, 2026.

The School Supplies and Book Grant 2026 commences on June 22nd, 2026.
The deadline for applications is July 8th, 2026.

Strengthening Spanish Education: 19 Teachers Complete Professional Development Programme

In a collaborative venture the Ministry of Education's Curriculum Planning and Development Division (CPDD), through its Modern Languages Unit (MLU) together with the Embassy of Mexico in Trinidad and Tobago (EmbaMEX) and the Centre for Language Learning (CLL) at The University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine, hosted a Professional Development Programme for Secondary School Spanish Teachers. The Closing Ceremony for the first cohort of teachers was held at the UWI CLL today, Wednesday 17th June, 2026.

The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Victor Hugo Morales Meléndez, Ambassador of Mexico, Mrs. Anna Singh, Director of CPDD. Also in attendance were Mr. Flavio Abraham González Hernández, Economic Affairs Attaché in the Embassy of the United Mexican States and Mr. Dev Pooma, Curriculum Coordinator in the CPDD.

Mrs. Anna Singh delivered remarks at the event congratulating the nineteen participant teachers on their successful completion of the programme and urging them to use their training to continue to inspire their students with an enthusiasm for learning foreign language and culture. "I encourage you to share best practices, embrace innovation and foster in your students not only language proficiency, but an appreciation of cultural diversity and global citizenship."

Designed to enhance educators' oral proficiency, reinforce pedagogical strategies for the teaching of writing, and foster the incorporation of authentic cultural content into Spanish instruction, the programme targeted teachers of students from Forms 4 to 6.

Initiatives such as this one valuable strengthening foreign language education and cultural exchange in and beyond classrooms across Trinidad and Tobago.

This programme is a testament to the Ministry of Education's continued commitment to collaborative initiatives that empower teachers and reinforce high quality language education.

Dr. the Honourable Michael R. Dowlath, Minister of Education, joined the June 2026 MBBS class at the UWI Faculty of Medical Sciences Oath Taking Ceremony on Tuesday 16th June, 2026.

This important milestone marks the transition from student to practitioner and the beginning of a lifelong journey of service. In taking this oath, graduates pledged to uphold the values of integrity, respect and excellence in the care and wellbeing of others.

Students Perform Poetry at Petrotrin 🎤👨‍🎓👩‍🎓

Talented primary and secondary school students from the Victoria Education District took centre stage today, 16th June, 2026, as they performed at the Spoken Word Poetry Competition 2026 in Petrotrin.

Dr. the Honourable Michael R. Dowlath, Minister of Education delivered the feature address at the competition and prize-giving ceremony. Also attending the event were representatives from Paria Fuel Trading Company Limited, including Mr. Kent Samlall, Director and Mr. Nazeem Mohammed, General Manager (Ag.), representatives of the San Fernando Borough Corporation, the National Library and Information System (NALIS) and the Unit Trust Corporation (UTC) as well as parents and teachers.

Minister Dowlath, in his address at the event, highlighted the significance of poetry in helping students develop their creativity and individual identity. "Your education is supposed to allow you to figure out your talents and what you like and to build your own dream."

Student participants were awarded for their performances at the end of the event as follows:
