The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MHUD) is responsible for the formulation and execution of Government’s policy in the Housing and Urban Development sector. The Ministry operates as facilitator in the implementation of those policies through its various units and affiliated agencies. The Ministry’s core areas of responsibility include: Government Subsidised Housing Monitoring and Evaluation of housing trends and markets in the country Home Improvement Grants and Subsidies Regularisation of Tenure/Housing for Squatters Land Settlement Urban development

Today, The Honorable Pennelope Beckles Minister of Housing and Urban Development will deliver and present 25 keys to eligible families at Lexus Villas, Marabella, Buen Intentó, Princes Town and other sites under the Small and Medium Contractors (SMC)Initiative.
The Honourable Pennelope Beckles, Minister of Housing and Urban Development received a courtesy call from the United Kingdom’s High Comissioner to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Her Excellency Harriet Cross.
During this inaugural meeting, the High Commissioner and the Minister would have touched on a number of areas of mutual interest to their respective countries.

Housing Ministers Distribute Starter Homes in East Trinidad to Deserving Recipients of the Ministry's Housing and Village Improvement (HVI) Programme - Recipients journeyed from St. Joseph, Sangre Grande and areas within the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo region to receive the keys to their new homes.
Also in attendance the Honourable Foster Cummings, MP for La Horquetta/Talparo and the Honourable Roger Monore MP for Toco/Sangre Grande.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, the Honourable Pennelope Beckles yesterday visited the HDC's South Office.
Minister Beckles was hosted by the Divisional Manager - Estate Management and the Regional Manager - South as she toured the compound and met with members of staff.

Earlier today the Honourable Adrian Leonce, Minister in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development together with Mr. Larry Olton, Head of Brand and Marketing, First Citizens Bank and Mr. Larry Mc Donald – Divisional Manager, Estate Management HDC, officially cut the ribbon at the opening of a play park at Cashew Gardens, Carlsen Field.
As part of HDC's Community Outreach, trees were also planted as a way of Strengthening Communities through Sustainable. Development.

Launch of the Business Improvement District project
The Honourable Adrian Leonce, Minister in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and MP for Laventille East/Morvant officially launched the “Business Improvement District” project at two locations in East Port of Spain earlier this morning, Wednesday 18th November 2020. The Launch consisted of the unveiling of two (2) signs. The first is located in close proximity to Riverside Plaza welcoming commuters entering East Port of Spain and the second is a Transport Shelter and secondary directional sign at the Corner of Eastern Main Road and Pashley Street, Laventille.
An initiative managed by the East Port of Spain Development Company Limited, the Project is designed to rebrand the physical image of East Port of Spain in phases. Phase 1 involves designing and installing signage throughout the area defined as East Port of Spain to identify the Urban Villages or communities and promote some aspects of their history. The overall objectives are to
• Improve the attractiveness of the EMR to businesses, commuters and residents;
• Engender greater pride in the business community, service providers and residents;
• Enhance the ambiance of the main business thoroughfare; and
• Leverage the strategic position of EMR as a major gateway into the City to stimulate economic activity and other aesthetic improvements
The Eastern Main Road is a hub of commercial activity in East Port of Spain and also a major thoroughfare leading to and from the country’s capital. Consistent with its mandate to transform the area, the East Port of Spain Development Company Limited seeks to revitalize the Eastern Main Road by establishing a Business Improvement Development (BID) between Morvant Junction and the Flyover. The signage unveiled forms part of this initiative.
Also present at the launch were MP Laventille West – Honourable Fitzgerald Hinds; MP Port of Spain South – Honourable Keith Scotland; Akil Audain of the San Juan Laventille Regional Corporation, CEO Port of Spain City Corporation, and, Dr. Deborah Thomas-Austin - Managing Director East Port of Spain Development Company Limited.

In an effort to have a deeper understanding and appreciation of the status of the many housing projects in East Trinidad, Housing and Urban Development Minister, Pennelope Beckles will lead some of her Government colleagues on a tour of six (6) Trinidad and Tobago Housing Development Corporation (HDC) sites.
Today, the group will visit Ridgeview Heights at Bon Air North, Woodstar Villas at Bon Air South, Trestrail in D'abadie, Carina Gardens in Arima and several Small and Medium Contractors (SMC) Housing Initiatives projects in Malabar.

Ministers Beckles and Leonce tours several LSA and HDC Projects Around the Country
On Monday 02 November, 2020, despite the inclement weather Minister of Housing and Urban Development, the Honourable Pennelope Beckles and Minister in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the Honourable Adrian Leonce were still able to tour several work sites under the remit of the Land Settlement Agency and the Housing Development Corporation in south, central and east Trinidad.
The Ministers were accompanied by Ms. Nirmala Ramlogan, Permanent Secretary (Actg) Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Chairman and CEO of the Land Settlement Agency, Chairman and Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation, and other officials from the Ministry, LSA and the HDC.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MHUD) extends deepest condolences to the James family on the passing of Mr. Isaac James. During this difficult period, we offer our prayers, love and support.

The Honourable Pennelope Beckles, on Saturday 17th October, 2020, presented thirty (30) tablets to the Principal of the Excel Government Primary School.
The East Port of Spain Development Company Limited under the remit of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, recognizes the need for computers and supporting hardware to facilitate online learning as well as bridging the digital divide that exist in east Port of Spain.
We view this as one way in helping to close the technological gap and remove some of the obstacles that threaten to hinder the learning process. MHUD is pleased to join other participating entities of the Adopt a School initiative within east Port of Spain to render much needed relief to students and their parents.
The Ministry’s overall strategic intent is to transform and revitalise east Port of Spain by providing socio-economic opportunities that will add value, reduce inequities and enhance the quality and standard of living for all residents, including our children, who live in east Port of Spain.
Minister in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the Honourable, Adrian Leonce, were also in attendance. Both Ministers trust that this will be the first of many items received to make online learning a whole lot easier and more accessible for our future leaders.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, the Honourable Pennelope Beckles, yesterday, presented keys to nineteen (19) deserving recipients under the Ministry’s Housing and Village Improvement Programme (HVIP).
At a distribution ceremony held at the Mt. Hope/Mt. Lambert Community Centre, recipients from various areas of north eastern Trinidad proudly collected keys to their new homes in the communities of St. Joseph, Matura, Valencia, Cumuto, Talparo, Sangre Grande and other areas.
Minister in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the Honourable, Adrian Leonce, Minister of Health and MP for St Joseph, the Honourable, Terrence Deyalsingh, MP for Toco/Sangre Grande the Honourable, Roger Monroe were also in attendance.

Honourable Pennelope Beckles received a Courtesy Call from His Excellency Tatsuo Hirayama, Japanese Ambassador to T&T.
On Friday 02 October, 2020 at the Ministry’s South Quay office, His Excellency Tatsuo Hirayama and the Honourable Minister discussed general bilateral relations between Japan and Trinidad and Tobago as well as cooperation at the UN level.
The two countries have strengthened relations over the last years and Japan is committed to implementing various projects with broad-ranged purposes.
Minister in the Ministry of the Housing and Urban Development, Adrian Leonce was also present for this meeting.
Earlier today, the Hon. Pennelope Beckles, Minister of Housing and Urban Development and the Hon. Adrian Leonce, Minister in the Ministry, presented recipients of the Ministry’s Aided Self-Help Housing Programme with their Deeds of lease to start construction of their very own homes.
In an intimate distribution ceremony at Gosine Street, St Mary’s Village, Carapichamia, a token number of recipients received their Deeds of Lease today. All other successful beneficiaries will be contacted and directed by the Land Settlement Agency (LSA) about the date and time they will be able to collect their Deeds.
Congratulations to the beneficiaries of today’s Ceremony under the Government Aided Self-Help Programme (GASHP).

On Wednesday, the Hon. Pennelope Beckles, Minister in the Ministry, Adrian Leonce and MP for Toco/Sangre Grande, Roger Munroe and the Chairman of Land Settlement, Hazar Hosein gathered for a ribbon cutting event at Brownfield Site, Settlement B, Bois Bande, Sangre Grande.
Some 150 households in the area have benefited from infrastructural works carried out by the Land Settlement Agency (LSA) of the Ministry. These upgrades included, drainage, roads, potable water, sewerage facilities, installation of five fire hydrants and electricity.
