Kumbh Global Summit on Development and Sustainability held at the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, India today (21.02.2025) where senior dignitaries from several countries participated, including Senator the Hon’ble Rohan Sinanan, Minister of Works & Transport and Mr Davendranath Tancoo, Chairman of the United National Congress (UNC) sharing their views on the tradition of Kumbh and its significance in Trinidad & Tobago and the wider Caribbean region, as well as on historical ties between the two sides. The event was organized by ICCR and India Foundation.

In a first of its kind, the High Commission organized a brainstorming session on “Growing India-Trinidad & Tobago Relations for a Robust India-CARICOM Partnership.”

The event was graced by Senator the Honourable Dr Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign & CARICOM Affairs. H.E. Dr Pradeep Rajpurohit, High Commissioner of India and Prof. Rose-Marie Belle Antoine, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the UWI St. Augustine delivered remarks at the event.

The panel discussion was moderated by Dr Bhoendradatt Tewarie, former Minister and Pro VC of the UWI, and included eminent panelists - Amb. Chandradath Singh, Former HC of Trinidad & Tobago to India; Mr. Andy Johnson, Veteran Journalist; and Dr Dave Seerattan, Senior Lecturer Institute of International Relations. Prof. Roger Hosein, Economist, Senior Lecturer at the UWI gave an “Overview of the TT-CARICOM and India Economic Relations."

The event was well attended by representatives of Ministers, MPs, Diplomatic corps, members from business chambers, media, and faculty and students of the UWI.

Indian High Commissioner to T&T, Dr. Pradeep Rajpurohit, says he believes Trinidad and Tobago is "key" to India/CARICOM relations.

Speaking at the 'Growing India-T&T Relations For a Robust India-CARICOM Partnership' at the U.W.I. St. Augustine Campus on Monday evening, he noted that T&T has the largest cluster of Indian diaspora in the region.

Due to this, Dr. Rajpurohit said he believes once a relationship between India and Trinidad and Tobago prospers, it automatically will have a "cascading effect" on India's engagement with the CARICOM region.

The High Commission and The Greater Tunapuna Chamber of Industry & Commerce organized an interaction on "Doing Business with India", laying emphasis on exploring select sectors, exploiting opportunities in India, meeting domestic needs, and taking bilateral trade to deserved and desired levels.
High Commissioner Dr. Pradeep Rajpurohit, Hon. Deputy Speaker Esmond Forde, MP Khadijah Ameen for St.Augustine, MP for Caroni East, Dr. Rishad Seecheran Mr. Ramon Gregorio, President of Chamber (GTCIC) and a large number of members of the Chamber were present.
The High Commission offered to connect the Chamber with Indian trade bodies and encouraged to exchange visits and participate in Indian events.
