Sen. The Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith, leader of Government Business in the Senate and Foreign Affairs Minister, today (July 9) shared that “Jamaica, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), and the wider international community have been profoundly saddened by the assassination of the President of the Republic of Haiti, His Excellency Jovenel Moïse on Wednesday, 7th July 2021.” At the same time, the Senator, “joined the international community; Haitians at home and in the Diaspora, in wishing Lady Moϊse a full and speedy recovery...” The Minister also affirmed that: “Jamaica stands in full solidarity and support with our brothers and sisters in Haiti during this difficult period.”

The leader of Government Business updated the Senate on CARICOM’s engagement with Haiti, in regard to its electoral crisis. In addition to condemning the assassination, Minister Johnson Smith shared that Jamaica, along with all CARICOM member states will be flying our national flag, alongside the CARICOM standard at half-mast for a period of three days, from July 7, 2021.
