Republic Day in Trinidad and Tobago is a public holiday celebrated on September 24th to commemorate the first meeting of the Parliament under the new Republican Constitution, which replaced the monarchy with a President as head of state. Although Trinidad and Tobago became a republic on August 1, 1976, the September date was chosen to honor this pivotal legislative event, symbolizing full sovereignty and a new era of self-governance.

World Sign Language Day, officially the International Day of Sign Languages, is celebrated annually on September 23rd to raise awareness about the importance of sign languages and advocate for the rights of people who are hearing-impaired worldwide. The United Nations established the day in 2017 to recognize the linguistic and cultural diversity of sign languages and to emphasize the necessity of early access to sign language education for the full development of deaf individuals.
