In today's Psychological Learning with Radhica, we will be learning about: AVOIDANT COPING

When someone ghosts you, it's way beyond a personal impulsive reaction. It's a mental move..

Avoidant Coping is a psychological strategy where a person deals with stress, conflict, or uncomfortable emotions by avoiding them instead of facing or resolving them.

People develop avoidant coping for several psychological reasons, most often as a way to protect themselves from emotional discomfort:

1. Learnt behavior:
if avoiding problems reduced stress in the past, the brain reinforces it as a habit.

2. Fear of conflict or rejection:
people may avoid situations that could lead to criticism, conflict, or abandonment.

3. Overwhelm or anxiety:
strong emotions (like stress or fear) can make facing issues feel too difficult in the moment.

4. Low emotional regulation skills:
some individuals haven’t learned how to process or express difficult feelings effectively.

5. Past experiences or trauma:
negative past events can make avoidance feel safer than engagement.

In general, it’s often a protective response that becomes a pattern over time.

Therefore, you being the victim may wonder why or what you may have done wrong or was it your fault? No, it's not your fault - when someone uses avoidant coping, it reflects their way of handling stress or emotions, not anything the other person did to deserve being ignored or left without closure.
