MESSAGE OF PRIME MINISTER THE HONOURABLE MRS KAMLA PERSAD-BISSESSAR, SC, MP, ON THE OCCASION OF THE 2026 FIFA WORLD CUP FINAL
Today, the world pauses for football.
Across continents and cultures, billions will gather around one game and one shared moment of anticipation.
More than a sport, football is a universal language that transcends borders and differences. It reminds us that, despite all that may separate us, we share the same hopes, passions and capacity for joy.
As a lifelong football fan, I look forward to every World Cup with the same excitement as millions of people around the world. I have celebrated unforgettable victories, felt the heartbreak of defeat, and marvelled at the skill, teamwork, discipline and moments of sheer brilliance that make this the beautiful game.
But football's greatest triumph is not measured by the final score. Its true victory lies in its remarkable ability to bring people together. Families gather, communities unite, friendships are renewed, and for a little while, the world feels smaller and closer.
Today, as people across Trinidad and Tobago gather in homes and public spaces to watch the World Cup Final, I encourage everyone to enjoy the occasion safely, peacefully and in the true spirit of sportsmanship.
As we applaud the courage and skill of the players, let us also celebrate the unity this beautiful game inspires. While only one nation will lift the trophy, football belongs to us all.
I wish everyone across Trinidad and Tobago a safe, joyful and memorable World Cup Final, and may God continue to bless our beloved Trinidad and Tobago.
END.
