On this 64th Anniversary of Trinidad and Tobago’s Independence, Pleasantville Secondary in collaboration with its Library Services, joins the nation in celebrating the freedom to learn, to question, and to grow.

Our independence gave us more than a flag and an anthem. It gave us the freedom to tell our own stories — of calypso and Carnival, of steelpan and soca, of diverse people building one nation.

As an educational institution, we hold those stories for you. In every book, newspaper, and resource, you’ll find the voices of Trinidad and Tobago: our history, our heroes, our challenges, and our dreams.

This Independence, we invite you to come, read, and discover. Know where we came from so you can decide where we’re going.

World Steelpan Day is an international observance celebrated annually on August 11th. Championed by the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the U.N. General Assembly officially proclaimed the day in 2023 recognizing the cultural, historical, and sustainable development significance of the steelpan—the only major acoustic musical instrument invented in the 20th century.
