* We need better shelter in communities throughout the country.
* Affordable, adequate shelter should be a priority for the government, the corporate sector and private citizens.
* We must change the systems, policies and attitudes that lead to poverty housing, and involve all partners and stakeholders in finding and implementing workable solutions. By advocating for

universal decent housing, we seek to alter the systems that reinforce poverty housing and to make affordable housing a reality for all.

Bogotá Colombia | City venue of the 5th Housing Forum, Latin America and the Caribbean
"Responding to the Climate and Social Crisis"
July 31st - August 2nd, 2023. Bogota, Colombia.
The 5th Forum on Housing and Habitat Latin America and the Caribbean is organized by Habitat for Humanity in collaboration with strategic partners and convened through the Urban Housing Practitioners Hub (UHPH). The Forum on Housing, Latin America & the Caribbean, is the only multi-stakeholder space in the region for sharing and collectively building the present and future of both housing and urban habitat.
The central theme of the forum’s fifth edition will be housing as key tool to address the current climate and social crisis, which was exacerbated by an unprecedented pandemic that worsened the region’s housing deficit. We will also be reviewing the status of housing, bringing together knowledge and facilitating comprehensive, innovative and scaled solutions that join the Sustainable Development Goals and New Urban Agenda.

Being disaster ready is our responsibility, which includes having a list of emergency numbers close at hand.

Everyone in your home, including your home’s caretakers (babysitters, house sitters, family, and pet sitters etc), should know exactly where to find this list.

There is one key factor that needs to be kept in mind when choosing where to keep your emergency numbers list. Namely, it needs to be visible. It should be incredibly simple to find and share with others.

In collaboration with our sponsorship partner, Proman, we are pleased to share this list of Trinidad and Tobago's EMERGENCY NUMBERS and some suggestions on where it should be kept.

Common places to keep it are:

1) On the refrigerator
2) In a drawer in the kitchen
3) Right by the front door
4) Close to the home phone
5) In a home organization binder
6) Stored on your mobile devices and in the cloud

Once you’ve chosen where to keep it, share this location with everyone in your house. In an emergency, you want to be able to find this list as easily as possible.

Habitat TT was pleased to host the launch of the Harnessing Innovative Technologies to support Resilient
Settlements on the Coastal Zones of the Caribbean (HIT RESET
Caribbean); Project BRC (Building Resilient Communities).

This collaborative project with The University of the West Indies, St Augustine Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and the Geographic Information Systems Society Trinidad and Tobago (GISSTT) will assess the vulnerability of 10 coastal communities in Trinidad and Tobago that can be affected by climate change and recommend innovative methodologies for community resilience, as well as conduct Disaster Risk reduction awareness and training within these communities. A dashboard will be developed to provide updated GIS data to influence decision making at community and policy levels and to also use the data to evaluate such community activities and resilience.

The launch was attended by the Honourable Faris Al Rawi, Minister of Rural Development and Local Government, who provided his support for this initiative. Representatives from other government agencies, CEDEMA, UWI, GISSTT, and the European Union Delegation to Trinidad and Tobago were some of those providing greetings and support.

We look forward to the roll out of this project over the next 18 months.
