Members of the UNC Tunapuna Constituency Executive and UNC Party Group 1620 recently visited a Santa Margarita resident whose home was destroyed by fire.

During the visit, the family was presented with a cheque generously donated by Hon. Jearlean John, Minister of Works and Infrastructure and MP for Couva North, to assist with rebuilding and recovery efforts.

Moments like these remind us of the power of community, compassion, and solidarity. When families face unexpected hardship, it is the support of caring individuals and communities that helps restore hope and provide strength during difficult times. 💛

The measure was announced by Minister of Finance, Hon. Davendranath Tancoo, during his presentation of the Finance Bill, 2026 in the House of Representatives today.

At Parliament this morning, Hon. Roger Alexander, Minister of Homeland Security and MP for Tunapuna, told members of the media that the State of Emergency remains an important tool in the fight against crime and that the work to secure the nation is ongoing.

Using a simple analogy, Minister Alexander said that when building a fence, gates must also be installed—otherwise, the fence remains incomplete.
