World Bee Day is observed every year on May 20 to highlight the vital role bees and other pollinators play in our ecosystem and food production. The day was proclaimed by the United Nations in 2017 and is celebrated globally to raise awareness about the threats facing bees, such as climate change, habitat loss, pollution, and pesticides.
Bees are responsible for pollinating many crops that provide us with fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. Without pollinators, food production and biodiversity would be greatly affected. World Bee Day also encourages people to take simple actions to protect bees, including planting flowers, reducing pesticide use, and preserving natural habitats.
