The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) is monitoring an area of low pressure (Invest AL96) in the Central Tropical Atlantic, with the leading edge of active weather approximately 2200 km east of the Southern Windward islands.
At this time, Thursday 27th August 2026, the system has a high (90%) chance of development into a Tropical Cyclone over the next seven (7) day period. Current trends indicate that a short lived Tropical storm could form later today. The system is moving westward at approximately 24 km/h and current projections indicate that the system will pose no direct threat to Trinidad and Tobago as it veers northwards over the coming days.
THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO WATCHES OR WARNINGS IN EFFECT FOR TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO.
This is the only statement on this system unless there are significant changes to warrant any threat to our islands. As always, pay close attention to information being issued by the TTMS by visiting www.metoffice.gov.tt, downloading our mobile app (search: TT Met Office) and following us on X, Facebook and Instagram.
