Taiwan & Japan Blind Music Concert

Yowming Blind Union is going to hold the Taiwan & Japan Blind Music Concert at T.S Mall 5F on August 12, 2:00 p.m. Acting Mayor Li and Chairman of Yowming Blind Union presented the pre-event press conference on August 2 and invited citizens to enjoy the concert performed by Taiwanese and Japanese blind musicians while hoped the concert can demonstrate the beauty of life.

The Social Affairs Bureau pointed out that total blindness people need to rely on braille to learn especially when it comes to music, they must learn the relevant music score and familiar with the rhythm of the music through braille. It is a very difficult study process. We are looking forward to more enthusiastic citizens and students to join the volunteering team, helping more visually impaired friends on learning music as well as showing the warmth and friendliness of Taiwanese.

2018 Southern Region Slope Land Management and Typhoon Morakot Disaster Prevention Seminar

The 2018 Southern Region Slope Land Management and Typhoon Morakot Disaster Prevention Seminar was held at National Cheng Kung University on August 1. The seminar mainly discussed soil and water conservation and long-term management strategy by invited domestic soil and water conservation experts to present and lead the discussion. The Southern Region Slopeland Joint Disaster Prevention Cooperation Agreement was signed during the event demonstrating central and local government is aiming to improve disaster prevention and reaction in order to provide public a safer environment.

The Chairman of the National Development Council Chen pointed out that the Taiwan disaster prevention mechanism was started during the 921 earthquake in 1999, the disaster prevention mechanism has been running since then. From the central government to the locals, it has developed to a certain scale now whether it is to prevent disasters or reduce disasters. Chairman Chen stated when facing the nature, we do not have the capital of pride, the ability to be conceited, only strengthen the ability of disaster prevention and response, the need for disaster prevention needs to be more professional especially facing the extreme climate. So we need to integrate resources, pull together our strength, correctly divided our labor to prevent and future disaster.

The visiting of president of Marshall Islands to Tainan

President Tsai Ing-wen and president of Marshall Islands, Taiwan's alliance in South Pacific, Hilda C. Heine, visited Southern Taiwan Science Park Bureau and Treevalley Industrial Park solar power generation system on July 31. Since it is the first president of Marshall Islands visiting Tainan, Acting Mayor Li Men-yen gave souvenirs to the guests and presented Tainan green energy industry achievements to both president Tsai and president of Marshall Islands Hilda C. Heine.

Mayor Li conveyed the idea of the two presidents after the meeting, Marshall has a considerable interest in the technical system of Taiwan's solar technology and hopes to establish a cooperation method. President Tsai also hopes that the Energy Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs can communicate with Marshall Islands in the near future, not only provide diplomatic assistance but also technical output.

Tainan Dongshan Dragon Fruit Festival

The Tainan Dragon Fruit Festival was held at Tainan Dongshan district on July 28 from 10:00 to 16:00 (Sat.) and July 29 from 13:00 to 16:00 (Sun.). Acting Mayor Li Men-yen participated in the event and tasted the dragon fruit process products and invited publics to visit Dongshan and enjoy its duck, coffee, and dragon fruit.

The over production of the agricultural products in Taiwan have caused prices to fall recently. Mayor Li stated that the fruits price in Tainan had not collapsed due to the monitoring by the Agriculture Bureau, both pineapple, mango, and dragon fruit are all in a very good condition which was even exported to Japan and South Korea. Mayor Li recalled his recent trip to Japan to promote Tainan's agricultural products. The fruits from Taiwan was displayed in the front of the supermarket in Japan showing the best quality. Therefore, it is necessary to promote harder on our good fruits to the international market.

The Opening of Tainan Civic Center SeFun Café

The Tainan Civic Center SeFun Café was opened on July 20. Acting Mayor Li Men-yen, Chairman of Children Are Us Foundation and guests participated in the opening ceremony in person to encouraged mentally re****ed children. Acting Mayor Li also made a sandwich with these children together and hoped citizens and government employees could enjoy SeFun Café’s delicacies while helping these needed children make their living.

Mayor Li stated that there are convenience stores, restaurants and barber shop in the city government but no coffee shop or a place for a light food and drink. Instead of looking for a general business, it is better to entrust the Children Are Us Foundation or related public welfare groups. After more than a year of preparations and discussions, overcoming the electrical & plumbing engineering related procedures, it was finally completed. In the future, the public and government employees can purchase good as well as do charity at the same time to provide opportunities for the mentally challenged children.

Tainan City Concert Band Asia-Pacific Band Festival Pre-event Concert

Tainan City concert band is invited to perform at the 20th Asia-Pacific Band Festival in Japan Hamamatsu. Acting Mayor Li Men-yen participated in the pre-event concert at Xinhua Performance Hall on July 14 and give the Tainan city flag of recognition to the band wishing them can successfully perform during the festival and demonstrate Tainan strength of the music.

Mayor Li stated that the Tainan City Concert Band has a very solid foundation, therefore the 2020 Asian Wind Music Festival hosted by Tainan was well deserved. The event will be led by the Director of the Cultural Bureau, Mr. Ye Zeshan, who will lead the team to Japan as well as welcoming the Event Flag, hoping that the Asia-Pacific Band Festival 2020 will be a great success and show the strength of the music.

2018 Cigu Seafood Festival

The 2018 Cigu Seafood Festival was held at Ciqu Liukong Wharf on July 14. Acting Mayor Li Men-yen and Director of Tourism Bureau of Tainan City Government Wang together promoting the hard clam catching and flesh seafood in Ciqu. Acting Mayor Li stated that Tainan produced abundant agriculture products that worth tourisms to experience such as mango and dragon or rice and seafood in mountain, plain and coastal area respectively.

Due to the limited parking space around the event site, during the event period (7/14, 7/15, 7/28, 7/29), Qigu bus stations will increase the shift from Yanshan to Liukong Port every Saturday and Sunday for the public.

Tainan Mango Export to Japan Mainstream Retailers

Acting Mayor Li Men-yen held the 2018 Mango Japan Export and City Agriculture Interaction Press Conference at Yonghua Civic Center on July 12. Acting Mayor Li expressed that, with the interaction meeting, Tainan City Government can deeply understand Japan market channel’s need and increase Taiwan agriculture product’s competitiveness to lead the future of Taiwan agriculture industry.

Acting Mayor Li pointed out, after interacting with Japanese sellers, Tainan has come up with clear agriculture product export strategy. Since the lack of ripening instruments in Japan, Tainan banana dealers should cooperate with international sellers set up adequate ripening and storing equipment. They should also strengthen the cooperation with the academic institutions to conquer and prolong the expiration date problems to meet Japan market’s need and take its place in Japan import fruit market.

Tainan City Government Held the Disaster Response Meeting in React to Typhoon Maria

Tainan City Government Deputy Mayor Wu held the first disaster response meeting on July 9 in react to typhoon Maria. Wu asked each emergency response team to stay alert and pay attention to their respective region frequently. Related personnel are required to keep on examing the machine and drainage system operate situation during the typhoon days.

National Cheng Kung University Disaster Research Center stated that the strong typhoon Maria is estimated to be closest to Taiwan from the evening of July 10th to the day after tomorrow. The typhoon is moving at a fast speed and concentrated, therefore it is necessary to pay attention to the instantaneous heavy rainfall. The maximum wind speed of the coastal area has reached Moderate gale level but it's not yet reached the standard for the classes suspension, however, the public is still required to prepare for the typhoon.

Singapore 2018 World Cities Summit (WCS) and Mayors Forum

Invited by Singapore Ministry of National Development Minister Lawrence Wong, Acting Mayor Li Men-yen lead Tainan delegation group participated in the 2018 World Cities Summit and 9th Mayors Forum in Singapore on July 8.

The theme of the WCS Summit was “Sustainable and livable cities: innovation and collaboration to build the future together”. It invited Mayors of all major cities around the world, senior government officials, representatives of various industry experts to explore and exchange views on how to pass governance and planning, technology and social innovation, sustainability and the development of livable cities. Mayor Li stated that the meeting will not only draw on the governance strategies and municipal exchanges of cities around the world but also share the experiences of different challenges that cities might face.

Tainan City Economic Improvement and Future Vision Press Conference

Tainan City Government Bureau of Economic Development Deputy Director-general Xiao held the Tainan City Economic Improvement and Future Vision Press Conference at MinJhih Civic Center on July 4 to let Tainan citizens understand the current Tainan development progress and future economic vision. After City and County merged, Tainan has experienced tremendous economic improvement including attracting 2,142 companies invested in Tainan with 9.307 trillion dollars investment amount, 16.740 trillion dollars annual production value and extra 100 thousand job opportunities.

In order to attract more manufacturers to invest in Tainan, the government set up a single service window and the Mayor personally held an investment report every month. An inter-department coordination meeting will be held to help manufacturers eliminate investment barriers and speed up the process for investment case which is more than 200 million dollar. The city government is actively creating a good investment environment to attract more investors and continue to promote the major construction of the Tainan Convention and Exhibition Center, Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City, and the South Campus of the Academia Sinica. We believe that it will bring new opportunities for the economic development in Tainan.

Tainan City Won the Best Improved Award in 2018 Global Views Taiwan City Competitiveness Report

According to the 2018 Global Views Taiwan City Competitiveness Report, Tainan City won the Best Improved Award of the year. Tainan City Government organized the press conference, hosted by secretary-general Fang, to announce the achievement Tainan City Government has got in proactively making Tainan an ideal living city. Secretary-general Fang also expressed that Tainan City Government will continue to promote important construction project and launch crucial policy.

Secretary-general Fang stated that the long-term distribution resources between the North and the South weren't very fair, however, Dean Lai and Acting Mayor Li have been actively promoting the government administration, including the Four basic constructions and the Ten flagship plans. Tainan ranked second in the Education and Culture, Local Finance and Social welfare this time among the six capitals. The public security and firefighting departments won the first place in the six capitals. Tainan has won the overall performance and best Improved award this year. There are still many efforts and progress to go in the future. All public construction is actively promoting at the moment, if the relevant construction can be completed one by one, the progress of Tainan will be much clear in the near future.
