Delighted to pay a visit to Hsinchu City and meet Mayor Anne Kao. Hsinchu has a young and vibrant population. 45% of the population is under 40, and similar to Singapore is very dense with close to half a million people packed within 104 square kilometres.

We had a good exchange on a range of areas of municipal cooperation, including tourism, youth exchanges, and start-up development, as well as the utilisation of digital government platforms.

I look forward to closer cooperation with Mayor Kao and her team, as well as trying Hsinchu’s famous bee-hoon, which Mayor Kao generously gifted!

風城新竹之行，台星交流「米」足珍貴、互動「粉」熱絡！

非常高興能造訪新竹市，並與高虹安市長會面！新竹市擁有一群非常年輕而且充滿活力的市民，有高達 45% 的人口年齡在 40 歲以下；同時與新加坡相似的是，新竹市的人口密度相當高，在僅約 104 平方公里的土地上，聚集了近 50 萬居民。

在與高市長的會談中，我們針對包含觀光旅遊、青年交流、新創產業發展，以及數位政府平台的應用推廣等多項市政合作領域進行了深入且正向的交流。

我非常期待未來能與高市長及她的團隊展開更緊密的合作。在此也特別感謝高市長的熱情接待，我已經迫不及待想品嚐高市長慷慨相贈的知名新竹米粉，感受這份「粉」有誠意的在地好滋味！

【Typhoon Alert and Notice of Office Closure】

The Taiwan Central Weather Administration (CWA) has issued a sea warning for Typhoon Bavi. Heavy rains and strong winds will be expected in Taiwan on Friday and Saturday (10 and 11 July 2026).

The Singapore Trade Office will be closed on Friday, 10 July 2026 due to the typhoon.

We urge all Singaporeans in Taiwan to pay attention to updates from the Central Weather Administration (https://www.cwa.gov.tw) and heed the advice of the local authorities.

A fin-tastic weekend in Pingtung! 🐟

Trade Representative Foo headed south this weekend and called on Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi. Both sides reaffirmed the long-standing ties between Singapore and Pingtung, anchored in agricultural trade, tourism, and strong people-to-people relations.

Beyond being Taiwan’s bluefin tuna capital, Pingtung is also home to several upcoming major national projects, including the Kaohsiung-Pingtung High Speed Rail extension and the Southern Taiwan Semiconductor Corridor. The county has also been selected as the location for Taiwan’s future National Rocket Launch Site.

TR Foo also visited the Pingtung 1936 To***co Culture Base for a glimpse into the county’s industrial history, as well as the Pingtung King Boat Museum to learn more about the cultural significance of the local King Boat Festival and Wangyeh traditions.

The visit concluded with dinner served at the iconic Donglong Temple - the centre of the King Boat activities - and where local flavours took centre stage as part of the 2026 Pingtung Bluefin Tuna Cultural Festival.

東港鮪魚、精采有「餘」的週末！🐟

新加坡駐台北商務辦事處代表符秀麗本週特別造訪南台灣，拜會屏東縣長周春米。雙方在會談中共同肯定新加坡與屏東之間在農產貿易、觀光旅遊及深厚民間交流上所奠定的長期緊密關係。

屏東不僅是台灣名聞遐邇的「黑鮪魚故鄉」，更是多項國家級重大建設的所在地，包括高鐵延伸屏東計畫以及大南方半導體 S 廊帶等；此外，屏東旭海也已被選定為台灣未來「國家級火箭發射場」的基地。

參訪期間，符代表亦前往「屏菸1936文化基地」細細品味當地的工業歷史，並走訪「屏東縣王船文化館」，深入了解在地王船祭典與王爺信仰的核心文化意涵。

此行在著名的東隆宮——也是王船祭典的信仰中心——享用豐盛又具有當地特色的晚餐後圓滿落幕。席間多樣的在地料理輪番上陣，完美展現了「2026屏東黑鮪魚文化觀光季」的在地好滋味。

Visited the COMPUTEX and InnoVEX 2026 in Taipei 3 days ago. COMPUTEX is one of the world’s largest technology trade shows, held annually in Taipei and focuses on computer hardware, semiconductors, AI, networking, and emerging technologies, while InnoVEX showcases starts ups in all sectors. This year’s COMPUTEX is the largest edition, featuring 1500+ exhibitors and 6000+ booths. Was awed by the positive vibes of these 2 events. Nvidia’s Vera Rubin is the star of the show, and not to forget Jensen Huang too.

Happy to meet SG-based companies at both events and also a group of start-up founders at my office, who are keen to find a landing in Taiwan. Their visit is facilitated by ACE.SG and Taiwan’s Startup Terrace. All the best in their pitching these few days.

幾天前，我特別抽空前往台北國際電腦展 COMPUTEX 2026 以及亞洲最具指標性的新創盛會 InnoVEX 2026。作為全球規模最大的科技盛會之一，今年的台北 COMPUTEX 全面聚焦電腦硬體、半導體、人工智慧（AI）、網路通訊及各項新興技術；而 InnoVEX 則全力展現來自各領域的新創量能。此次的 COMPUTEX 匯聚了超過 1,500 家參展廠商、使用超過 6,000 個攤位，展覽規模創下歷史新高。我在現場可以感受到蓬勃的生機與正向活力，令我相當震撼！其中，輝達（Nvidia）最新發表的「Vera Rubin」晶片架構無疑是全場最閃亮吸睛的焦點，當然，執行長黃仁勳（Jensen Huang）的現身，更讓台灣的黃仁勳旋風再度掀起一波 AI 科技狂潮。

同時，我也非常高興能在這兩大展覽中與許多來自新加坡的企業交流。我也在辦事處接待了一群對於插旗台灣市場展現高度興趣的新創創辦人。在新加坡創業行動社群（ACE.SG）與台灣「亞灣新創園（Startup Terrace）」的引薦與鼎力協助下，讓新加坡新創業者這趟參訪順利成行，衷心祝福這些新創團隊在未來開拓台灣市場與創業都能大放異彩！

I’m grateful to have met Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation (CCKF) for International Scholarly Exchange Chairman Dr Fredrick Chien, who has been a good friend of Singapore for many years. It was interesting to learn about the origins and the growth of the foundation over the years. I am also glad to hear about the good progress made in the establishment of the CCKF–NUS Southeast Asia Centre for Chinese Studies from CCKF President Professor Chen Chun-i. It is the CCKF’s fifth overseas base and will serve as a useful regional hub to further Southeast Asia–grounded perspective and understanding of sinology.

我非常榮幸能拜會蔣經國國際學術交流基金會董事長錢復博士。錢董事長多年來一直是新加坡的摯友。在我們的會談中，聽錢董事長對於基金會的創立緣起與歷年來的成長歷程娓娓道來，令人深感獲益匪淺。我也很高興從基金會執行長陳純一教授得知「新加坡國立大學—蔣經國基金會東南亞漢學研究中心」籌設的良好進展。該中心是蔣經國基金會在全球設立的第五個海外據點，未來將作為重要的區域樞紐，進一步發展並厚植以東南亞視角為立足點的漢學研究。

TR Foo Teow Lee had a warm discussion with Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Yuan Johnny Chiang this week. Deputy Speaker Chiang has been a strong supporter of the friendship between Taiwan and Singapore, having chaired the Singapore parliamentary friendship group for several years. Both he and TR Foo affirmed the strong economic and people-to-people ties between Taiwan and Singapore, and exchanged views on recent developments relating to AI adoption, advanced manufacturing, and energy resilience.

What enables a small state like Singapore to navigate an increasingly uncertain world with confidence?

Trade Representative Foo attended the Leaders of the East Forum organised by the Taiwan Listed Companies Association (TLCA) on 15 April, where guest speakers including Taipei Representative Tung Cheng-yuan and TLCA Vice Chairman Lai Sun-quae shared perspectives on Singapore’s development and Taiwan’s future trajectory.

In her remarks, TR Foo highlighted that a defining trait of Singapore since independence, is our strong emphasis on crisis preparedness at every stage of nation building. This mindset enables Singapore to respond quickly to geopolitical pressures, economic volatility, and global risks with clarity and composure.

Taipei Representative Tung highlighted talent policy as one of the areas where Singapore offers the most valuable lessons. He identified three core pillars of its success: meritocracy, good governance, and social harmony.

I had a delightful evening at Scanteak’s Spring Reception recently. I got to witnessed Scanteak’s excellent achievements in Taiwan over the past three decades and also met many Taiwanese friends at the reception, who have been supportive of Scanteak over the years.

Scanteak’s continued expansion in Taiwan is testament to both its confidence in the market, and Taiwanese consumers’ recognition of its quality products. I’m sure Scanteak will continue to flourish and I wish Scanteak and its Chairman Lim Pok Chin continued success in the years to come!
