In 2024, INTERPOL penned a report titled "Paris 2024 Olympic Games: Awareness for Potential Digital Piracy Services," as part of the organization's Project I-SOP, which was aimed at combating online piracy. The report mentioned a Taiwanese investigation into the illegal broadcasting of Olympic events through the Unblock Tech TV box. INTERPOL later asked Taiwan to share our experience and suggest potential measures for combating set-top boxes and other digital piracy services in the future, in order to protect intellectual property rights better.

In 2017, Lisa Lines, an Australian national, was suspected of inciting her lover to attack her former husband with an axe. She then fled to Taiwan, where she believed she and her children could evade capture, despite the INTERPOL Red Notice issued for her in September 2022, as Taiwan is not a member of the international law enforcement organization.

It wasn't until Australian police made a formal request for Taiwan's assistance with the case in 2023 that police here could put their skills and expertise into action, tracking her movements, while reporting to police in Australia.

In the end, Lines and her children were caught after they travelled to Palau on holiday, as they entered INTERPOL jurisdiction. Their counterparts in Taiwan had warned police in Palau in advance of her arrival. She was extradited to Australia, while her kids were returned home.

Fresh Solutions: Chip in with Taiwan | Pursuing a sustainable environment with the world🤝

The Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is currently underway in Belém, Brazil. The leaders of our allies have already spoken up for Taiwan at the leaders' summit and during the thematic sessions, lauding Taiwan's efforts to partner with the world on technological solutions to the green transition.

No one can tackle climate change alone; it requires cooperation and solidarity from everyone. This short video calls on the international community to recognize Taiwan's value as a partner, given its technological know-how and professionalism, and in pursuit of a sustainable world.

Did you know that despite constituting only 0.027% of the world's surface area, Taiwan contains more than 3.8% of the world's species?

Taiwan has more than 200 peaks over 3,000 meters tall, as well as seas that drop to a depth of 4,000 meters. It consists of cold landscapes similar to the Arctic and tropical coastal forests with equator-like weather, providing unique ecological environments with rich biodiversity.

You might have heard that has unique leverage in supply chains and produces 90% of the world's advanced chips, but how did it achieve this position? A new documentary, ‘A Chip Oddysey’ by director Hsiao Chu-chen, explores this very topic, showcasing the role of the Industrial Technology Research Institute in Taiwan’s domination of the sector. The director recalled audiences crying during a scene about photolithography, which suggests the film is about more than just the industry; it’s a David and Goliath story.

Taiwan’s semiconductor journey is also one of diplomatic successes, wherein it has strengthened friendships with democracies around the world, leveraging AI and semiconductors to champion value-based alliances, secure supply chains, and advance shared technological standards.

🌌Happy Qixi Festival🌌

is an important festival💖 in , telling of a love story between a cowherd and a weaver girl banished to opposite sides of the Milky Way as the stars Altair and Vega, respectively. They can only meet on a bridge of magpies on this special day, which is why it's often referred to as the Eastern version of ! 💘

👉In Western countries, roses are often used in grand gestures of love, but in Taiwan, you'll see people presenting their crush with the cockscomb flower🌺.

This is because Qixi is also the birthday of the weaver girl, who is also thought to be a celestial maiden, whose favorite flowers are the cockscomb and the globe amaranth, so these flowers have come to represent the festival💐

✨If you've got your flowers ready, all that's left is to figure out how you're going to confess your love😍

When visiting Pingtung, remember , southern Taiwan's most iconic peak!

⛰Beidawushan peak, located on the border of and , rises to 3,092 meters above sea level. It is the southernmost part of the Central Mountain Range and one of the five legendary Taiwan mountain peaks. It has magnificent natural scenery & also cultural and religious significance.

For local Indigenous peoples, the and , Beidawushan peak is holy as it is the abode of ancestral spirits. In the Paiwan language, it is called Meli-miligang, meaning ‘dreamlike beauty.’

From the summit, you can overlook the , the and the just by turning around, so it’s known as the Grand View of Mountains and Seas. In autumn and winter, it offers the spectacular phenomenon of the sunrise🌄 and a waterfall of clouds, a magical sight.

A railway weaves through lush green farmland at the foot of the mountain, creating one of southern Taiwan's most iconic images and offering a way to experience the interwoven landscape of nature and culture.

📍From Pingtung City, it's about an hour's drive to Beidawushan trailhead. Along the way, you'll can visit Indigenous townships, including Taiwu, Wutai and Sandimen Townships.

🚞來到屏東，不能錯過南台灣最具代表性的高山 #北大武山。
⠀
⛰️北大武山位於 #屏東 與 #台東 交界，海拔3,092公尺，是中央山脈最南端的高峰，也是 #台灣五嶽 之一。這座山不只自然景觀壯麗，更擁有文化與信仰的重要地位。

對當地原住民族 #排灣族 與 #魯凱族 來說，大武山是祖靈✨居住的地方，因此被視為 #聖山。排灣族語中稱它為 Meli-miligang，意思是「夢幻之美」。🫧

登上山頂，可以同時眺望 #台灣海峽、 #巴士海峽 與 #太平洋🌊，因此有「山海大觀」的美稱。秋冬季節，有機會看到壯觀的 #雲瀑 與 #日出🌄，非常值得一訪。

Can you tell the difference between a and a mongrel?🔎

📣The third Saturday in August every year is , aimed at raising awareness for the plight of domesticated animals without a home, encouraging people to adopt animals instead of purchasing from breeders, and calling for more responsible pet ownership in terms of spaying and neutering, vaccinations, health checks, and discouraging the abandonment of pets🦮🐕‍🦺

In Taiwan, many stray dogs you’ll see are mongrels or mixed-breed dogs🐕, but these are often mistakenly referred to as “Taiwan dogs,” another name for the Formosan mountain dog. Pure-breed Formosan mountain dogs are hunting dogs primarily used by indigenous communities living in the mountains, and have been recognized as a distinct breed by the International Canine Federation.

📚More about the Formosan mountain dog:
• Appearance: pricked ears, almond-shaped eyes, triangular face, broad sloping thighs, a sickle-shaped tail, short hair, slender limbs, and various colorings of fur.
•Temperament: high energy, loyal, affectionate, and intelligent.

💡The charms of mongrels
Given their mixed lineage, mongrels all have unique appearances and temperaments, but they’re generally healthy, energetic, and good-tempered, making a great addition to any family💕

Do you enjoy a cuppa? Some oolong or some boba?

In , tea🍵 doesn’t just come in teapots🫖, you’ll find a whole host of shops selling tea and other drinks🧋which you can take to go! Whether you’re after high-end oolong or just want to grab a cold drink on a hot day, tea is a part of everyday life in Taiwan!

Taiwan tea plantations cover over 12,000 hectares, and the industry is worth over NT$30 billion a year. In the short video below, you can meet the Bai brothers, who returned to their hometown in Pinglin to take over the family tea plantation after university, harnessing their youthful creativity and applying it to the age-old industry. Although their father says “It takes effort to truly experience tea,” in Taiwan you can experience it on every corner!

🌟【Two New Taiwan Native Bird Species🐦🐦!】
🇹🇼Taiwan is richly and is known as a bird watcher’s paradise, where approximately 1/15 of the world's bird species🦜, a total of 686 species can be spotted.

📌According to the Taiwan Wild Bird Federation📊, Taiwan currently has 32 endemic species and 52 endemic subspecies. Many of these have evolved in unique forms due to geographical isolation post- Ice Age. Taiwan's location at the crossroads of bird migration routes allows from all over the world to touch down here.

📌In 2022, two species previously classified as endemic subspecies were officially upgraded to endemic species:
🔹【Yellow-bellied Greyfinch (Niltava vivida)】
The Yellow-bellied Greyfinch, with its bright yellow chest and abdomen and vivid blue plumage, inhabits broad-leaved forests at altitudes of 1,000–2,000 meters.
🔸【Taiwanese White-browed Flycatcher (Tarsiger formosanus)】
The white-browed flycatcher's eyebrows are very eye-catching. It mainly lives in low shrubs between 2,000 and 3,000 meters.
