MOFA recently welcomed a Pacific media delegation on a Taiwan visit!
The delegation, comprising 6 media representatives from 6 Pacific countries, including New Zealand and Australia, visited Taiwan last month. During their visit, they sat down with MOFA Minister Lin Chia-lung for a tea reception and were hosted for a banquet by Deputy Minister François Wu and Vice Minister Baushuan Ger. They also visited other government agencies, think tanks, and civic organizations, giving them a deeper insight into Taiwan's development and experience when it comes to regional security, technology industries, smart medicine, energy transition, and international cooperation.
The members of the delegation have subsequently published and broadcast reports introducing Taiwan's developmental strengths in semiconductors, medicine, and technological innovation. The reports also discussed the possibility of strengthening cooperation in industry, medicine, and sustainable development, in line with the requirements of their home countries.
A Palauan media report cited Minister Lin as saying that, in addition to Taiwan, the US, Japan, and Australia will also take part in the planned Pacific Prosperity Exhibit, which will be held while Palau plays host to the Pacific Islands Forum, showcasing the fruits of collaboration with Palau on green energy, smart governance, maritime cooperation, and sustainable development, and demonstrating how like-minded partners are advancing a partnership on sustainable development and resilience in the Pacific region.
Reports also cite Deputy Minister Wu, stating that Taiwan will continue cooperation with the US, Japan, and Pacific allies to uphold peace in the Taiwan Strait and regional peace and stability, and will continue engagement with international media to enhance understanding of Taiwan Strait security and developments in the Pacific region among the international community.
A report from a journalist from Papua New Guinea stated that Taiwan is an important leader in the global semiconductor industry, with a complete and innovative technology ecosystem, playing an indispensable role in global supply chains. The report also called for enhanced exchange and cooperation between Papua New Guinea and Taiwan in the technology and related industrial sectors. The report also called for the government to reinstate the Taiwan mission in the country, in line with the country's foreign policy doctrine of "friend to all, enemy to none," and to boost bilateral exchange and cooperation.
