🏫From Classrooms to Homes🏠
✨A Cultural Journey Between BB&N and YMHS✨

From March 20 to 22, 2025, Yang Mei Senior High School (YMHS) hosted 9 students from Buckingham Browne & Nichols School (BB&N) for a cultural exchange program that included a homestay experience. This visit fostered cross-cultural learning and lasting friendships.

The program began with a welcome ceremony, where the YMHS principal and a BB&N teacher gave opening remarks. Students participated in icebreaker activities and performances, creating a vibrant atmosphere. A gift exchange symbolized the growing friendship between the schools. Afterward, the BB&N students toured the YMHS campus, familiarizing themselves with the school’s facilities.

In the afternoon, a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) session addressed cultural misunderstandings, empathy, and respect. Teachers Lee-Ann, Sam, and Miss Jessy led engaging discussions, helping students reflect on how cultural differences shape perspectives. The day’s highlight was a Bubble Milk Tea Workshop, where students learned to make Taiwan’s famous drink from scratch, strengthening teamwork and connecting with Taiwanese food culture.

On Day 2, the visit continued with a school assembly, where Class 313 students shared their experiences of being admitted to top Taiwanese universities. The guests then joined various extracurricular activities, from arts to sports, before participating in a sports and fitness session focused on table tennis. In the afternoon, they prepared for a hiking trip to the Memorial Shrine, where they enjoyed a picnic with Taiwanese snacks, bonding over Taiwan’s natural beauty.

The exchange concluded with a closing ceremony, celebrating the shared experiences and friendships formed. Despite the short duration, the program left a lasting impact on both BB&N and YMHS students, inspiring future collaborations and highlighting the importance of global learning and cultural exchange.

🧋Food and Drink Culture🧋
❄️YMHS Bilingual Students Craft Bubble Milk Tea & Red Bean Soup at Winter Camp❄️

On January 23, 2025, bilingual students from Yang Mei Senior High School (YMHS) participated in a Winter Camp where they learned to make Bubble Milk Tea and Red Bean Soup with Taro & Sweet Potato Balls. The event combined language learning, cultural exploration, and culinary skills, offering students a deeper connection to Taiwan’s food heritage.

The first session, led by Miss Jessy, a foreign English teacher from the Philippines, focused on essential cooking vocabulary, the history of Bubble Milk Tea, and traditional Taiwanese desserts. Students received a booklet with instructions for making the featured dishes.

After the learning session, students moved to the auditorium, where they practiced their skills with guidance from a guest instructor from Miaoli Vocational School. Under his instruction, they prepared their own Bubble Milk Tea and Red Bean Soup with Taro & Sweet Potato Balls. This hands-on activity enhanced their teamwork and practical use of English in a real-life context.

By the end of the day, students had successfully completed their culinary creations and gained a greater appreciation for Taiwanese food culture. The Winter Camp was not only a cooking lesson but also an introduction to the cultural exchange they would soon experience with foreign students. It provided a perfect opportunity to blend language learning with Taiwan’s rich culinary traditions and hospitality.

This year, we engaged in multiple online exchanges with our international sister schools. From cultural sharing to academic learning, every interaction was filled with warmth and inspiration. Through these opportunities, our students broadened their global perspectives and prepared themselves for future global challenges.

❄️Winter Volunteer Training Camp: Spreading Warmth Through Actions
During the winter, we hosted an international reception volunteer training camp that combined craft workshops and cultural experiences:
🔹Epoxy Resin Lucky Charms: Students handcrafted beautiful souvenirs to share good wishes.
🔸Hakka Lei Cha and Mochi: Students experienced traditional craftsmanship firsthand and discovered the unique charm of Hakka culture.
These activities not only enhanced students’ crafting skills but also deepened their understanding of the importance of cultural heritage.

💡YMHS Forum: Sharing and Promoting Bilingual Education
We visited local junior high schools to share YMHS’s practices and insights on bilingual education, covering everything from curriculum design to teaching achievements. Together with local teachers and students, we explored the possibilities of future education. It was not just an exchange but also a journey of mutual growth!

🏫International Reception: Welcoming Middlesex School
This year, we were honored to host Middlesex School from the United States. During their visit, teachers and students exchanged academic and cultural insights. YMHS students showcased their confidence and enthusiasm, strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two schools.

🎵A Musical Journey: A Ca****la Concert
This year’s a ca****la concert was truly unforgettable! The Radcliffe Pitches, a female choir from Harvard University, captivated us with their pure voices, bringing both awe and inspiration. Our students were deeply moved by the diversity and beauty of music.

🌍 Yang Mei Senior High Hosts Its First Virtual United Nations on Climate Change🌍

Today, November 19, 2024, Yang Mei Senior High School proudly hosted the Virtual United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), bringing together 50 delegates from Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, India, and Turkey. This event, inspired by Model United Nations, showcased the power of collaboration, diplomacy, and student leadership in addressing global climate challenges.

The heart of the conference lay in the breakout room debates, where delegates tackled critical topics:
✅ Climate Finance and the NCQG Problem
✅ Global Carbon Credit System
✅ Loss and Damage Fund
✅ National Adaptation Plans (NAPs)

Despite being their first time participating in such a format, our students confidently led as chairs, motion presenters, and delegates. The moderated caucuses and Q&A sessions were filled with insightful ideas and thought-provoking exchanges, proving the depth of their research and preparation. Months of effort culminated in dynamic discussions that left everyone inspired!

We also celebrated the diversity of our participants through cultural performances, highlighting the richness of the countries represented. Behind the scenes, this event was made possible by the unwavering support of our dedicated team, who managed technical aspects and evaluated participants for awards.

Congratulations to all awardees of Best Position Papers, Best Inquirers, Verbal Commendations, and Best Delegates! 🎉
