The EAC Secretary General, Amb. Stephen P. Mbundi, has today called on the private sector to embrace the EAC as one integrated market, urging businesses to look beyond national borders and harness the opportunities presented by regional integration.

๐Ÿ”นSpeaking at the Busia One Stop Border Post in Kenya, he emphasised that cross-border trade is not a threat but an opportunity to expand markets, strengthen regional value chains, create jobs and improve livelihoods across the region.

This afternoon, the EAC Constitutional Experts held consultations in Rubavu District, located on the northwestern shores of Lake Kivu and bordering Goma in the DRC.
The engagements brought together Provincial and District Leaders, Joint Action Development Forum (JADF) representatives, and Academia to contribute views on the proposed EAC Political Confederation Constitution.

The consultations were graced by the Governor of the Western Province, Hon. Jean Bosco Ntibitura, and the Division Commander, who joined participants in providing perspectives on how the constitutional framework should be structured.

๐Ÿ”น Political Confederation does not entail the loss of sovereignty of a Partner State.

โ–ช๏ธThe individual Partner States retain their sovereignty as independent nations. At the national level, the Partner States individually exercise their sovereignty in areas other than the areas of cooperation under the Confederation. At the regional level, the Partner States jointly exercise their sovereignty to advance their agenda of regional integration in specified areas of cooperation under the Confederation.
