otecting Consumers against unfair and misleading market conducts. According to the Merchsndise Marks Act (1963), as amended, FCC is responsible for curtailing and counteracting counterfeit products in Tanzania Mainland. As a market support institurion, FCC is particularly responsible for setting and ensuring a level playing field in the Tanzania Mainland Market, by ensuring that market participants observe competition principles and adhere to globally and legally acknowledged and accepted consumer rights and principles. These include the UN acxepted principles against restrictive trade practices (The UN Set),, and consumer rights provided under the UN Guidelines for Consumer Protection, Revised Edition of December 22, 2015 and the Consumers' International (CI) Consumer Rights. FCC has quasi-judicial powers, and exercises them inquisitorially on violations of icompetition and consumer law vide the FCA. On this front it serves as a Tribunal of first instance, with its decisions being appelable at the Fair Competition Tribunal (FCT). All matters relating to approvals of mergers and acqusitions, exemptions to mergers and agreements, registration of Business to Consumer Standard Form (Consumer) Contracts used in trade as well as protection of legitimate brands and trade marks are handled by FCC.
