🇺🇸Mwaka 1787, viongozi kutoka sehemu mbalimbali za Marekani walikusanyika katika mji wa Philadelphia kwa Mkutano wa Katiba — tukio la kihistoria lililosaidia kuunda mustakabali wa demokrasia ya Marekani.

Wakikabiliwa na changamoto ya kujenga taifa lenye umoja zaidi na nguvu zaidi, wajumbe hao walifanya kazi pamoja kuandaa Katiba ya Marekani, waraka ulioweka muundo wa serikali, kulinda uhuru wa mtu binafsi, na kuanzisha mfumo wa mgawanyo wa madaraka na mizania ya mamlaka (checks and balances) ili kuhakikisha uwajibikaji.
