Enabel in Tanzania Enabel is the Belgian agency for international cooperation In Belgium BTC is presenting itself as a centre of excellence for development issues.

The Belgian development agency, BTC, mobilises its resources and its expertise to eliminate poverty in the world. BTC contributes to the efforts of the international community and works towards a society that provides present and future generations with sufficient resources to build a sustainable and fair world. Its staff members in Brussels and overseas embody the commitment of the Belgian State

and other development partners to international solidarity. They support more than 300 cooperation projects and programmes in some 20 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. In Tanzania BTC concentrates on Basic Infrastructure in Water and Sanitation, and Sustainable Agriculture. In all interventions Gender and Environment are important transversal themes.

In partnership with Enabel and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, brought stakeholders together in Dodoma to establish the National Steering Committee for the Regional Responses to Climate Displacement in Sub-Saharan Africa (RE2CLID) project and officially launch the project.

Funded by the under NDICI–Global Europe, RE2CLID aims to prevent, minimise and respond to disaster-related displacement across the Lake Tanganyika Basin.

The Committee marks an important step in strengthening national coordination, ownership and joint action on climate-related displacement in Tanzania

In Kigoma, a new group of young Digital Citizens is being equipped with skills in content creation, storytelling and responsible digital engagement through the Wezesha Binti programme.

From creating impactful TikToks and Instagram reels to amplifying stories around gender equality, youth empowerment and community change, these young creators are learning how to use digital platforms to inform, inspire and influence positive change.

Fakhi Juma’s story is one of transformation from small-scale production to a growing farming business in Tanga.

Through the Inclu-Cities project, Enabel in Tanzania, in partnership with Rikolto, is supporting farmers like Fakhi to strengthen their productivity, access markets, and adopt climate-smart practices.

The results speak for themselves: higher yields, lower irrigation costs through solar power, and a secured market in Dar es Salaam alongside over 70 farmers he leads.

We were honored to host Director General, Anthony Kasore, in Kigoma last week. 🇹🇿

As part of the visit, we discussed how to align skills training with the major investments transforming Kigoma, from the SGR to the new Muhimbili Hospital branch to the growing cement industry.

We visited training centres across Kigoma town, Buhigwe, Kasulu, and Nyamidaho. We saw young people learning. We met with industry partners. And we all agreed on one thing: training must match what employers actually need.

Co-hosted by Enabel and Initiative on Opportunity-driven Skills and VET in Africa (TEI OP-VET) as part of the EU’s Global Gateway strategy, the conference brings together government, development partners, and Enabel colleagues from across the globe to address how skills systems can better respond to real market needs.

A strong focus is placed on engaging the private sector, ensuring that investments, innovation, and industry demand actively shape TVET systems and create clear pathways to decent jobs, particularly for youth and women. 🤝

Last week, , Director of Operations at , visited Tanzania to meet the Enabel Tanzania team and engage with partners working to advance sustainable and inclusive development.

During the mission, he met with staff at the Country Office in Dar es Salaam, engaged with development partners and institutions.

In Kigoma Region, the visit included discussions with public and private sector actors during the Private Sector Roundtable on Investment, Trade and Inclusive Growth, as well as visits to local partners and institutions including TAFIRI, Tanzania Ports Authority, and SIDO.

The mission concluded in Dar es Salaam with a visit to the Port of Dar es Salaam where discussions focused on ongoing collaboration under the T-GATE project, supporting improved port operations and trade facilitation and highlighting ongoing collaboration with national institutions and partners.

Devota Rwendabona is strengthening her business and moving closer to her financial goals.

After attending financial management training supported through the funded IncluCities project, she joined a Community Microfinance Group (CMG) with fellow traders at Mlango wa Chuma Market in Tanga. Through daily savings and access to small loans, she has doubled her capital and expanded the range of products she offers.

Her journey reflects how financial skills and collective action can help women traders grow their businesses and build greater financial independence.

For Eleonora, gaining new skills opened a new chapter for her business.

Already working as a tailor in Kasulu, she identified a new opportunity after attending training facilitated through our bilateral cooperation 🇧🇪🇹🇿 Wezesha Binti project, where she discovered a new niche: producing protective beekeeping suits. What began as a small tailoring activity has since grown into a more specialized and profitable enterprise.

Her story shows how access to the right skills and opportunities can help women entrepreneurs expand their businesses and reach new markets.

Through the funded IncluCities project, she enrolled in a gas welding course at the centre in Mwanza, gaining skills in a trade where women are rarely seen. Today, she is determined to grow in the field and one day open her own workshop.
