🎵 Back to where the music happens!

Balozi Marianne Young was delighted to revisit the Dhow Countries Music Academy Dcma Zanzibar in Zanzibar.

During her visit, she had the opportunity to see the Academy’s work and meet those helping to nurture the next generation of musicians. She was also pleased to gift a clarinet to the Academy to support its music education and young musicians.

The visit builds on the strong connections between the UK and Zanzibar’s creative sector, including previous British Council-supported collaborations with DCMA.

A wonderful reminder of the power of music to connect people, celebrate creativity and strengthen the ties between the UK and Tanzania. 🇬🇧🇹🇿🎶

During her visit to Zanzibar this week, High Commissioner Marianne Young met Hon. Nadir Abdulatif Alwardy, Minister of Water, Energy and Minerals, Dr Josephine Rogate Kimaro, Executive Secretary of the Zanzibar Planning Commission, and UK Honorary Consul Julia Bishop.

Discussions focused on three issues central to Zanzibar’s future:

• Strengthening Zanzibar’s energy infrastructure, including renewable energy investment, improving reliability and expanding access to sustainable power to support households, businesses and economic growth.

• Supporting long-term economic planning and investment, including opportunities to strengthen Zanzibar’s investment climate, build investor confidence and unlock sustainable growth.

• Supporting the UK community and people-to-people ties, including discussions on the welfare of British nationals, strengthening local partnerships and fostering links between the UK and Zanzibar.

The meetings also highlighted the important role of partnerships in helping connect investment, expertise and opportunities that support Zanzibar’s long-term development ambitions.

Safer, more efficient electric cooking starts with strong standards.

Yesterday, our Development Director Anna Wilson Anna Wilson, joined Tanzania Bureau of Standards Shirika la Viwango Tanzania (TBS), Tanzania Ministry of Energy Wizara Ya Nishati and UK-supported Modern Energy Cooking Services MECS Programme Tanzania to raise awareness of Minimum Energy Performance Standards and energy labelling for electric cooking appliances.

The standards will help ensure appliances are safe, efficient and reliable, while making it easier for consumers to compare products and make informed choices.

Today in Dodoma our High Commissioner met Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba 🇹🇿

The meeting focused on the UK and Tanzania’s bilateral relationship, inclusive growth, and the importance of accountability and reconciliation.

High Commissioner Marianne Young also met CCM Secretary-General Dr 🇹🇿

They discussed the Secretary-General’s time as High Commissioner to the UK, our work in Tanzania on preventing violence against women and girls, and the importance of accountability.
