BREAKFAST BUSINESS MEETING WITH MR. ROLI VINCENT

On 19 August 2026, the High Commissioner of the Republic of Uganda to the United Republic of Tanzania, Ambassador Rtd. Col. Fred Mwesigye, held a breakfast business meeting with Mr. Roli Vincent, proprietor of Ongava Lodges, a renowned safari hospitality investment with four-star safari destinations.

The meeting focused on exploring potential investment opportunities in Uganda’s tourism and hospitality sector.

Mr. Vincent expressed keen interest in establishing high-end eco-lodges in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, taking advantage of the park’s unique biodiversity, gorilla tourism and growing demand for premium eco-tourism experiences.

Mr. Vincent has existing investments in the tourism sector in Namibia, South Africa and Tanzania, and indicated that Uganda presents significant opportunities for further investment, particularly in the high-end eco-tourism and hospitality segments.

The High Commissioner welcomed the proposed investment interest and highlighted Uganda’s favourable investment opportunities, tourism potential and the importance of responsible and sustainable investments that contribute to local economic development, employment creation and conservation.

The engagement provided an important platform for promoting Uganda as an attractive destination for high-value tourism investment and for strengthening partnerships between Uganda and international private-sector investors.

Conclusion:

The High Commissioner appreciated Mr. Vincent’s interest in Uganda and encouraged continued engagement with the relevant Ugandan authorities to explore the proposed investment in Bwindi and other potential tourism opportunities in the country.

UGANDA HANDS OVER CHAIRMANSHIP OF THE REGIONAL FORUM ON MIGRATION.

On 18 August 2026, Uganda officially handed over the Chairmanship of the Regional Ministerial Forum on Migration (RMFM) to the United Republic of Tanzania, at the conclusion of the two-day Ministerial Meeting held in Dodoma.

Established in Nairobi in 2021, the RMFM brings together 11 countries from East and the Horn of Africa to advance a common regional approach towards harmonising labour migration governance.

The Forum commended Uganda for its two-year leadership, during which significant progress was made in strengthening regional ownership and sustainability of the Forum, including mobilising Partner States to contribute membership fees towards its operations, thereby reducing reliance on development partner support.

Uganda’s delegation was led by Hon. Lt. Gen. (Rtd.) Henry Tumukunde, Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, accompanied by the Minister of State for Labour, Hon. Simon Mulongo, officials from the Ministries of Labour and Mr. Philip Kanyoonzi, Counsellor, who represented H.E. Col. (Rtd.) Fred Mwesigye, Uganda’s High Commissioner to Tanzania.

Hon. Tumukunde handed over the RMFM Chairmanship to Hon. Deus Clement Sangu, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Labour, Employment and Relations of the United Republic of Tanzania.

The Forum was attended by representatives of Partner States and development partners, including IOM Director General Ms. Amy Pope, ILO, IGAD and UNDP, as well as representatives of private employment agencies.

On the sidelines, Hon. Tumukunde held bilateral engagements with the IOM Director General, the ILO Regional Director and the UNDP Resident Representative in Tanzania, focusing on strategies to strengthen support for Uganda’s priorities in labour migration and employment.

Uganda Delegation Inspects Progress of High Commission Chancery Construction in Dodoma

On 17 August 2026, the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Hon. Henry Tumukunde, together with the State Minister for Labour, Hon. Simon Mulongo, the Uganda High Commissioner to Tanzania, H.E. Ambassador Col. (Rtd) Fred Mwesigye, and other delegates, visited the ongoing construction of the Uganda High Commission Chancery building in Dodoma.

During the visit, the delegation received an update on the progress of the construction works. The Minister appreciated the progress made and commended the High Commissioner for his leadership, commitment and efforts towards ensuring the successful implementation of the project.

Following the site visit, the delegation paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Energy of the United Republic of Tanzania, where a closed-session meeting was held. The engagement provided an opportunity for discussions on matters of mutual interest and further strengthening of bilateral cooperation between Uganda and Tanzania.

The visit underscored Uganda’s commitment to strengthening its diplomatic presence in Tanzania while promoting closer bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Parliamentary Committee Concludes Oversight Visit to Uganda Consulate in Arusha

On 15 August 2026, the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs concluded its three-day oversight visit to the Uganda Consulate in Arusha, as part of Parliament’s oversight programme of Uganda’s Missions abroad.

During the visit, the Committee engaged with the High Commissioner, the Consul General, Consulate staff and representatives of the Ugandan diaspora. The engagements provided a valuable platform to review the Consulate’s operations, achievements, challenges and priorities, while sharing insights on how to further strengthen service delivery.

The Committee also gained first-hand insight into the Consulate’s role in advancing Uganda’s diplomatic, economic and regional interests, as well as its contribution to strengthening Uganda’s engagement within the East African region.

The Consulate expressed its sincere appreciation to the Parliamentary Committee for the constructive engagement, guidance and recommendations provided during the visit. The Consulate further assured the Committee of its commitment to implementing the guidance received, following up on the recommendations, and continuously improving its performance.

The Consulate remains determined to fulfil its mandate and advance Uganda’s national interests by strengthening diplomatic relations, promoting trade and investment, supporting the Ugandan diaspora, and deepening regional cooperation. The visit reaffirmed the shared commitment to ensuring that Uganda’s Missions abroad effectively serve the country and its people.
