Reservations are recommended, please call (078) 836-5434. Most tours begin at Neema Crafts located down from the central clock tower. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Start locations are easily accessible by foot or car. Please specify if you would like the general tour or an extended tour as outlined below. Extended tours need at least one days advanced notice for bookings. Includes transport when necessary

- Igeleke Rock Paintings (additional 1.5 hrs - $10/person)

- Gangilonga Rock Climb (additional 1.5 hrs - $10/person)

- In The Service of the Cross -visit to Tosamaganga mission (additional 2 hrs - $15/person)

Albert Chahe
A friendly young man from Iringa who is passionate about sharing his heritage with visitors as well as other Tanzanians. Providing guests with a mix of local culture and history, Albert weaves an interesting story. Mzee Everisto Mgatta
is a Wahehe gentleman from the Iringa region. A retired civil servant, he enjoys providing visitors an insight to the heart of 'The Land of Mkwawa' He is particularly knowledgeable of the transition period from British colonial administration to native self government after independence

Went on an exploration safari to look for some alternative tourism activities such as camping & hiking. This is on the edge of the udzungwa scarp forest. You can see the effects of human settlement. Beautiful valley though!

The boundary of the Udzungwa Scarp forest reserve...such a dramatic difference. The have been called the Galapagos of Africa due to the bio-diversity including birds, primates, frogs etc. a great alternative or add-on to the traditional African safari package.

On my safari yesterday, I had to choose between a steep sandy slope or returning to the village. Glad I made a great choice as my short visit was enjoyable and we shared some sweet sugarcane. Kids were very curious and surprised by my Swahili greetings. There are 19 villages around the nature reserve & adventure tourism or research could be a source of income for them.

Kariakoo in Dar es Salaam gets its name from the 'Carrier Corps" whose depot was located there.
During WW1 many people were forced to be porters for both the German & British armies, leaving the villages deserted with only children & old people.
On the 150 mile march from Iringa to Dodoma, the British column required 9,300 lbs of food a day as they marched. As a result they needed over 10,500 porters, who each carried 50 lbs of supplies.
The suffering and causalities from this period will never be fully known as the conscripted porters were exposed to diseases such as influenza, small pox and syphilis as well as being overworked in tough conditions
