Welcome to the team, Karibu Raquel! ✨
We are happy to introduce Raquel Muñoz Fernández, Chief Scientific Officer, who will be collaborating with Maalum as a Scientific Director.
Raquel is an environmental biologist, specialised in ecology, ecosystem management and restoration, with strong expertise in nature-based solutions for biodiversity conservation and climate resilience. Her work combines science with action on the ground.
Beyond her scientific background, Raquel brings extensive experience in community engagement, socio-economic development, and the empowerment of women and youth. She works closely with local communities to co-create inclusive and long-lasting conservation solutions.
With an international background in environmental and marine conservation projects, Raquel will work hand in hand with the Maalum local team, strengthening the scientific, social and community-driven dimensions of our work in Zanzibar.
