Statement by the Honorary Consul of Brazil in Zanzibar

It gives me great fulfillment to share the uplifting conclusion of the case involving Mr. Marcelo, a Brazilian national who once faced legal challenges while in Zanzibar. Having successfully won his appeal before the competent Courts of Zanzibar, he is now a free man, ready to return home to Brazil and begin a new life.

I extend my deepest gratitude to the Embassy of the Federative Republic of Brazil in Daresalaam and to the Law Office of Sepia Attorneys & Associates, under the capable leadership of Mr. Slim Abdallah, Managing Partner and Senior Advocate, whose professionalism, diligence, and unwavering pursuit of justice have been instrumental in achieving this just and rightful outcome.

As the Honorary Consul of Brazil in Zanzibar, I take immense pride in witnessing the triumph of justice and the restoration of liberty for Mr. Marcelo. His case stands as a powerful testament to the integrity, transparency, and fairness of Zanzibar’s judicial system, and to the constructive cooperation that continues to flourish between our institutions.

To Mr. Marcelo, I wish you renewed strength, peace of mind, and endless possibilities as you are flying home to São Paulo, Brazil after five years of endurance and reflection. May this new beginning bring you purpose, hope, and joy.

His Excellency Abdulsamad Abdulrahim having just landed from an international trip last night, he immediately joined fellow members of the Diplomatic Corps from Sweden, the United Kingdom, Spain, France and other Scandinavian countries for a dinner held yesterday evening at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Zanzibar.

It was a meaningful dialogue focused on renewing partnerships and strengthening collaboration, exchange ideas and work together toward a safer and more cooperative future.

The Honorary Consul of Federative Republic of Brazil Hon. Abdulsamad Abdulrahim had honour to receive a special courtesy call visit from the champions of the ‘East Africa Cup 2025’, City Sports Academy Zanzibar, who proudly brought the trophy home from Moshi, Kilimanjaro.

The Honorary Consul applauded the team for their patriotism, courage and team-spirit stating that “This victory is not only a win for Zanzibar but a testament to the growing talent and potential of our youth through sports, but also celebration to unite and inspire young people. We remain committed to supporting sports diplomacy and youth empowerment in Zanzibar”

Hon. The Consulate of the Federative Republic of Brazil in Zanzibar has the honor to inform the public that, under the framework of the Bilateral Education Cooperation Agreement, applications are now open for the Undergraduate Student Program for Foreign Nationals (PEC-G), an initiative of the Brazilian Government that offers students of developing countries the opportunity to pursue tuition-free undergraduate studies at public and private Universities in Brazil.

The program targets students who have completed secondary education outside Brazil and seek to contribute to the development of their home countries through academic and professional
training. The application period runs from June 30 to July 25, 2025.

PEC-G provides access to Brazil's dynamic and multicultural academic environment, promoting International cooperation and exchange. The selection process consists of two stages:
i) completing the online application form;
ii) submitting the required documents in person at the Embassy of Brazil in Dar es Salaam.

The Honorary Consul of Federative Republic of Brazil, Hon. Abdulsamad Abdulrahim hosted the first-ever Iftar where over 300 people in Zanzibar—including his family and friends, and 27 groups of people with special needs, including people with disabilities, Albino, orphans, blinds, deaf, widows and neighbours within our community.

The iftar shared a heartwarming special meal, drinks, ice cream and stories of each other, bringing smiles, warmth, and a sense of belonging to these blessing hearts. The evening was filled with unity, compassion and embodying the true spirit of Ramadhan.

Honorable Abdulsamad would like to sincerely thank all of you who came out and joined us in our Iftar. “May Allah reward you with goodness, blessings and happiness in every step of your lives.” Ameen🙏🏾
