Local residents have known about the miraculous power of the local springs since the 13th century. Of course, there was no smell of any resort in those ancient times, so the peasants simply drank some water for their pleasure. The doctor of the Tepel monastery, Jan Josef Ner, taught the residents of Marienbad how to make money from mineral springs. The monastic doctor began to seriously study the chemical composition of spring water, and as a result, already in 1812, the first stone house for spa guests grew up in the vicinity of Marienbad. After 10 years, a run-down provincial town surrounded by swamps turned into a cozy European resort, which was periodically visited by the genius of German poetry - Johann Wolfgang Goethe. By the middle of the 19th century, rumors about the healing springs of Marienbad had already spread throughout Europe. However, the resort reached its full prosperity only by the 70s of the century before last, after the railway line connected it with Vienna and Prague.
